The staff are attentive and the setting, a toilet complete with urinals, is unrivaled. You just can't do more or better.
I brought three German friends here on holiday for the evening. They are all planning return trips and want to hold all their future special occasions at the Gentlemen's Arthouse. Tickets are being booked as we speak.
My only confusion was with the set up of the deal as advertised by Restaurant week on the website. We were lead to believe it was a three course meal at R250 pp. The food, and multiple courses, was worth the extra expense and was amazing but the evening for four ended up costing R2800 with a bottle of wine and round of drinks. I didn't receive the slip so couldn't directly check but I think the food in the end was almost R500 pp. This is not a fault of the restaurant but a miscommunication on the Restaurant Week explanation.
Gentlemen's outhouse. What an amazing experience. The attention to detail, the food tasted divine. The decore was quirky and different. The entertainment was was an unexpected bonus that made the night. Definitely recommend it for others

Not being a frequent visitor to Newtown created quite a lot of stress in getting to the restaurant as you will not find the restaurant on Carr Street. The parking is in the Newtown Junction parking and knowing this would have helped in finding the restaurant, rather than driving up and down a poorly lit Carr Street on a Friday night. Also as a first timer to the restaurant, it was also not clear where exactly the restaurant was once in the Newtown Junction.
Once at the restaurant and entering past the velvet curtain, everything changed and it was possible to step back in time and just enjoy the experience from the special venue, food and entertainment. On the night we had two dancers, a bit of burlesque as well as some Persian belly dancing which was great fun. Sitting in the urinals of yesteryear was also "special".
It is definitely worth a visit to the restaurant, but be advised to plan the route before you go.
Absolutely loved this place... The food was out of this world. Such a wonderful evening, would recommend going as a crowd.
Only thing I would recommend is slightly more entertainment, maybe a bit more music as the vibe seemed to be a bit dull at times. Other than that it was a wonderful evening out... I highly recommend it.

Remodeled from an Edwardian Gentlemen’s washroom, they’ve given it quite a stylish look and but the Edwardian theme. We received a cucumber and gin drink to welcome is, followed by palate teasers...nuts in a bomb, popcorn with truffle oil and olives...I enjoyed the popcorn but the bomb was a bit tricky to eat. This was followed by the garden...luv’d it...snails, mushroom & Brie. I wasn’t a fan of the seafood bouillabaisse...guess the flavours were just too harsh. Luv’d the main...both the lamb lollipops and pork wings were made to perfection, and the accompaniment of the pumpkin brûlée & pototo churros was nice. Dessert was crepe Suzette...it was nice.
