Unfortunately the atmosphere wasn't great and the food was disappointing. Our starters were good (Tuna and Ravioli), however the springbok was tender but underwhelming with lots of beetroot. The desert (fondant) was incredibly salty and we couldn't finish it. I was quite disappointed when we arrived, our table was full of sand and we had to ask for it to be cleaned. I was also excited to bring my dog, really great that the restaurant is so accommodating. Unfortunately there was bits of broken glass on the floor which my puppy kept picking up. The doggie menu was great! really exciting that we could order her a bowl of food as well, though they didn't have the chicken sausages as on menu and it was changed to pork. But still a lovely addition as not many restaurants are so accommodating.
Sweet friendly spot in a pretty part of town. Food was prompt, service excellent. For dog lovers it’s wonderful. They even have a separate menu for them. Loved the chocolate fondant dessert. Will return.
A real hidden gem. A very interesting menu with options for all palates. I had difficulties deciding seeing there were so many options that sounded good. All dishes I ordered were great. A good and reasonably priced wine list as well
Excellent food and service to match. We will be back.
Great meal and all round experience. Went on a Sunday so was a bit quiet but will definitely be back.

Pilcrow & Cleaver is the delicious brainchild of Chef Judi Fourie; a Cape Town restaurant fierce with bold modern flavours.
With no service staff, and no doors, windows or walls to our professional kitchen, Pilcrow & Cleaver puts you in direct contact with the chefs and cooks that make your food. We invite you to smell and anticipate modern European daily inspired menus of small plates, mains and desserts. Swirl a glass of proudly South African wine over dinner or unwind after work at our separate bar section. Browse our retail shelf’s homemade delicacies and contemplate a recipe in our bespoke cookbook collection. Or talk to us as we prepare homemade flavours right in front of you. We are pet-friendly, follow the no-tipping movement, the first restaurant in Cape Town to serve Father Coffee and during the COVID-19 lockdown we are still open for business.
Hi, I'm Chef Judi
And welcome to Pilcrow & Cleaver, a new paragraph with a different twist, something that I have dreamt about and cooked into realisation for the last 15 years.
The passion for food started to pulsate through my veins from a very young age and for the last decade I have been on a culinary journey of exploration around the world. My travels have inspired me to find new dishes, experience unique flavours and taste different food to bring it all together and share it with you from my kitchen at Pilcrow & Cleaver, right here, in the vibrant heart of Cape Town.
Food is an experiment-experience that evokes emotion. It is not perfection, it’s about expression. Cooking is an art, and the kitchen is my canvas and I want you to join me as a create dishes with a modern flair; highlighting the different unique flavours of each and every ingredient.
