Rudolf takes the guests out onto the stoep overlooking the lake, offers a aperitif drink and spins stories on wines & the food. We were then served an Amuse Bouche consisting of Rainbow Trout "Caviar", a sprig of spring onion on cream cheese & peas served on a crostini (or toasted Melba toast)
Thereafter, we moved inside to the dining room and I had the Twice baked Blaauwkranz Blue Cheese double baked souffle, topped with beetroot, biltong & spring onions which was very tasty. The Smoked Snoek Wontons accompanied by cucumber salad roll was good.
The little dish containing the 2 sculptured butter rolls and the little flower on top shows the dedication and attention to detail by Chef Lizelle Stolze (a lovely personality), who went to the Pru Leigh Cullinary School in Pretoria.
I ordered a glass of Le Bonheur blend of Cabernet 25% and Merlot 75%.
We had the broccoli soup, with a bit of nutmeg/cream on top - which was very good.
We were then served a spoon of palette cleanser of rooibos, ginger and verbena.
For the main course we both had the grilled fillet of beef in a pepper & red wine jus. The fillet came sliced and looked good on the plate with roasted potatoes, whole baby onion, stir-fried ratatouille, peppercorns, baby courgettes, croquette of mashed potato and a whole baby onion. I licked the plate clean with my finger - it was so delicious.
For dessert we had the bruleed lemon tart served with a slice of glazed pineapple and cardamom. The tart was a lemon curd baked tart baked with a brulee topping, served with raspberry sorbet and rhubarb coulis from the garden.
The food was great and service good as well. It was fine dining in a lovely setting.
The bill came to R890,00 with tip
Excellent cuisine with an eye for detail and a very matching wine list. An amazing venue!
