I had the pleasure of sharing a super dining experience with friends from Holland at Babel. I was 'proudly South African' listening to my guests raving about Babel and the quality for money experience they had. Highly recommended!

Eating at Babel is an experience, without it being too obvious the chef is trying to impress you with her cooking. It’s not about science, molecules and strange surprises in taste. It's about a natural mix,the basics done to perfection. All ingredients are still recognizable: the green bean you saw in the garden is still a green bean on your plate, but so perfectly grown and cooked it is more delicious than you ever thought possible. I mean, I am still talking about that green bean! I love the fact you get your salad in a big bowl to share, I was absolutely blown away by the boomtamatie tert and surprised by the herb tea you can pick yourself. Lovely friendly, smart and professional staff, without being overly serving. And last but not least, it all looks fab. All in all, my absolute favourite!

Eating at Babel is not just about enjoying great foor, it's all about the experience of having superbly cooked home-grown organic ingredients. Therefore Babel is, in my opinion, the #1 contemporary restaurant in South Africa. Its food is honest: what you see is what you get, and you can see (and taste) the freshness and richness of the products used. Having had dinner in top restaurants worldwide I can honestly say that Babel is a life-changing experience when it comes to dining. The service and ambiance definitely add to the whole experience. Superb, and a must-visit for local and international guests.

About Babel

Meals are creative though always clear in structure.  Vegetables and fruit gathered daily from the garden are often served with their skins on.  Helpings are generous and meals may be taken either in the glass enclosed restaurant or under the Plain trees in the courtyard, depending on the weather.
