What 3 people say about Il Giardino Degli Ulivi
Love the Italian look & feel of Il Giardino, it is such a special place: the café, the patio, the restaurant... Love the Italian look & feel of Il Giardino, it is such a special place: the café, the patio, the restaurant... Of course, the whole area of 44 Stanley is cool, but I believe Il Giardino is right at place and one of the better restaurants there, food-wise. The staff could be a bit more aware of creating an atmosphere: the place is absolutely beautiful, but we were one of few guests on a Tuesday night in the glass house, and they had no music on and hardly any of the candles were lit, it actually felt like it was closed! A bit of a strange welcome, especially because there were already guests having dinner there. But, after that was solved, we had a wonderful intimate dinner. I will definately go again and would recommend it to anybody.
Nice restaurant, but unfortunately a bit empty since we were the only guests. The food was actually very nice, much better than I've expected it to be. Great place to eat after shopping at 44 Stanley!
It's the second time I've been there, and both times were wonderful. It's a great place to bring tourists - and by that I mean South Africans touring their own country. The surprise on their faces when they walk around the shops and enjoy the exquisite atmosphere of il Giardino is very gratifying. Will definitely be coming back.
About Il Giardino Degli Ulivi
When you take a seat at Il Giardino in the lively 44 Stanley complex you could just as well be anywhere in Italy, relaxing in an olive grove next to a soothing dam with braziers to warm you when the weather turns chilly.
Set in one of Jozi’s trendiest spots, this family run restaurant has been named one of the best Italian restaurants in the city by Radio Today and has been featured on Kyknet and SABC 2.
il Giardino offers patrons delectable food and friendly staff. We have homemade pastas; seasonal vegetables, gourmet pizzas and delicious meat, chicken and fish dishes. It can be served under the olive grove in the courtyard, in the pizza section or in The Room next to a cozy fireplace and AGA-stove.
The Room is il Giardino’s conservatory. It is a beautiful venue, with long 10-seater tables - perfect for city weddings with a difference, private functions and year end parties.
Live music, good food and a great vibe is the key to il Giardino’s success. On Wednesday and Friday evenings and Sundays during lunch we have live music on offer which range from Gypsy Jazz, bluegrass, country rock and honky tonk. Its only at il Giardino you will find rebel writer Rian Malan playing the guitar and Steve Boykie Sydley the sax. SAMA Award winning producer Dan Roberts and his friends (mostly Radio Kalahari Orkes members) come and play their country rock, blue grass and honky tonk music under olive trees once a week.
In the city of gold, il Giardino is definitely one of the gems.
