The restaurant did not blow my mind as i thought it would, food was fancy but not particularly tasty..

Maybe because it was lunchtime on a Saturday long weekend, it was very quiet (at any time there were only two tables upstairs) which made for a quiet atmosphere. In our case it was preferable over a loud and busy place.
Had a great meal at The Orient. Worth trying. Service a little slow but food beautifully presented, great taste and generous portions. I would most definitely recommend. Duck cooked to perfection as well as firm juicy prawns.
The portions were generous that we couldn't even finish them. The duck spring rolls for starters were crispy and flavoursome with a side of tamarind sauce.
The vegetable green curry was delicious with a great coconut taste and a hint of heat from the chili.
Both prawn stir fry and duck breast was full of flavour accompanied by great rice noodles.
Food was absolutely delicious

About Orient
The buzzing place to see and be seen in fashionable Melrose Arch. With its rich décor in colours of silver, purple and copper, Orient is all glitz and glamour with its glass crystals dangling from the ceiling. The interior certainly makes an unforgettable statement and whether you love it or hate it, the attention to detail is simply superb. Offering contemporary Asian cuisine which is beautifully presented, Orient is a big hit with sushi lovers and Johannesburg fashionistas.
Owned by Thai Africa restaurants, the group that launched other fashionable favourite Asian restaurants - Wangthai, kong and So Yum, the décor at Orient makes a radical departure from the more traditional Asian-style interiors one is accustomed to. It is thanks to designer Anton de Kock’s interpretation of the “yin and yang” theme that all the elements of the interior compliment one another so successfully.
With authentic Asian Chefs in charge of the kitchen, you can be sure you’re eating the real thing. Try the Asian-style oven roast duck, or the steamed fish with a soy and ginger sauce, or select from the range of Chinese dim sum, sushi, Thai or Vietnamese dishes on offer in this trendsetting, slick, modern restaurant. The Peking Duck which is the signature dish is highly recommended. Orient has been graded as one of South Africa’s select 5-star venues.
