To kick off our Restaurant Week in 2021, we selected to return to Kream. Situated in Brooklyn, this stylish venue offers a high-end dining experience.
Everyone welcomed us and were very friendly and attentive throughout our visit.
The 2 coarse lunch menu featured a selection of either chicken , beef or fish and a vegetarian option, with 2 deserts to choose from.
For our lunch we chose their Chicken and Beef.
The Sirloin, which was served on a bed of wilted spinach and topped with blue cheese and biltong was prepared perfectly as ordered and very tasty. The 2 meats with the blue cheese being a great combination. This was accompanied by a delicious potato fondant, which was beautifully browned in butter and stock.
The Cajun Chicken breast was served on a bed of baby rocket, parmesan and onion marmalade, accompanied by a serving of skinny fries.
Unfortunately the chicken was tough, and the creamy spicy Cajun vanilla sauce tasted more of a diluted tamarind basting with no real spiciness or spice. The two tomato wedges, which were grilled tasted like they were prepared the day before. The bed of baby rocket, parmesan and onion marmalade were a great combination and was fresh and tasty.
For desert we selected each of their options – Their Blondies and Brownies and a Malva pudding.
The Malva pudding was delicious, being moist and sweet. This was served with fresh custard and some creamy vanilla ice cream on top of some shortbread crumble. A great traditional favourite.
The Blondies and Brownies (a white chocolate brownie and a dark chocolate brownie) was wonderfully stodgy and sweet on their own. The Blondie was covered in Condensed Milk which amplified the sweetness and along with the dark chocolate sauce which drenched the Brownie made everything too sweet and completely overpowered the subtle taste of the Pistachio ice cream. (For personal taste I would have selected a more bitter chocolate sauce and only drizzled it over the Brownie to balance the sweetness of the Brownie itself and a little Vanilla Cream over the Blondie).
