Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Prosopa and thank you so much for all the compliments! That is what we strive for in order to have happy customers that return to the restaurant. I do wish though that you had voiced your concerns regarding the "average" dishes you had when I visited your table several times during the night. In fact, I was even seated at the table next to yours on several occasions and not once during your visit did you mention any dissatisfaction.
Thank you nonetheless!

"Quite Average Food"
food: 5 service: 10 ambience: 10
The ambiance and service we received were impeccable. Unfortunately our food was very average and not exciting at all. The amouse bouche was delicious, however, the prawn started was very bland and the snail starter was nothing special. The lamb main was over salted, however the butternut puree was delicious. The fish main was also delicious. The creme brule was very average, but the ice cream that was served with the baklava was absolutely delicious.

Amazing evening.
Restaurant has a lovely warm fireplace in the center of the restaurant.
Knowledgeable, friendly and funny owner comes to each table and explains each course.
Food was amazing. Perfect portion size and flavor in each course.

Thank you for taking the time to review your dining experience at Prosopa! We pride ourselves in what we do and take all comments very seriously. I would like to address your comments individually so other guests can understand our side of the story as well:
1. You say "There was a lot of wines that is out of stock" in your review. Firstly, if we hadn't marked these with "Sold Out" stickers, you probably would not have even noticed. However, we are currently in the process of changing our wine list that is 2 (yes, two) years old! We will be changing many wines we currently keep to new and exciting wines, and we see no reason to keep them in stock since we will be replacing them shortly. Especially since we have over 120 wines to choose from. Therefore the wines you mention whose "prices is very high," and in the same breath,"we had good wine" are actually a bargain!
2. It baffles me how you think you have an understanding of the restaurant industry when the average mark-up you mention is actually the mark-up that bottle stores use for wines and NOT restaurants. Perhaps you can find a supermarket, shop or bottle store that can serve you freshly prepared, quality, restaurant-style food with silver cutlery on white crockery, on tables covered in white tablecloths while your impeccably dressed waiter serves you your wine, chilled to the perfect drinking temperature, in fine imported French glassware, while soft jazz is playing over the carefully placed speakers so you can hear each other speak in a classy, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere while you wipe your mouth with crisply-starched white cloth napkins!
3. You had a 3 (three) course lunch for R250 per person which included prawns, snails, fish, lamb and ribeye steak. It's obvious from your comments that you don't get out much. I encourage you in future to try other restaurants so you can educate your palate and your expectations accordingly. If you say things such as "The meat tasted very good, but the whole meal didn't work as a whole." how do you expect to be taken seriously?! Do you really think we would serve our guests "really good and fresh" potatoes but "day/days old" butternut? The pureé was in fact roasted butternut, and we prefer to not oversalt our food, but let our guests add extra for themselves if they prefer.
4. You say you would order the snails again, but yet you "will not go out of my way to visit the restaurant again." You contradict yourself in your own review!
I understand that the restaurant is not for everyone and I hope that you will find peace! Please bear in mind that this is just my opinion though!

"Great Service!" 6.7

Myself, my husband, my mom and dad went for a Sunday lunch! I obviously tasted everyone's food and wine and asked them what they think. Our waiter was Wesley and he was very good, always available, and very friendly. There was a lot of wines that is out of stock, and the wine prices is very high, we paid R158.00 for a bottle of wine you can buy for R69.00 in the shops. And I understand restaurant mark up, but this is more than an average restaurant mark up of 35 - 45%. The Amuse Bouche was great, great flavours and a great way to start our lunch. For starters we had: Spanish Prawns - Delicious and a good portion size. 2 x Oven-Baked Snails - Wow, full of flavour, will order this again was really very good. - Meal of the day! Beef Carpaccio - Very yummy and light. For mains we had: 2 x Lamb Kleftiko - What a let down, this is supposed to be the signature dish of this restaurant. 1st of all the portion of lamb is very small, its 2 round 5cm pieces of meat wrapped in foil with feta and sauce or something inside. The meat tasted very good, but the whole meal didn't work as a whole. It was served with vine leaves, but I thing it was spinach. The other side was butternut purée, I thought it was dried apricots, it was so dry, I think it was from the previous day/days and just warmed up on the plate, it was very dry and definitely not a purée and I couldn't taste any flavours on it. The greek lemon potatoes was the star of the dish, and tasted really good and fresh. The sauce with mushrooms and spinach was good but lacked a bit of flavour, we added a lot of salt. Rib-Eye Steak - Well cooked and tasted very good, with creamed spinach that was nice and fresh. Grilled White Fish - The fish was cooked very good and tasted great with a lemon sauce and black rice, and it was a good portion size. We had a good lunch and we had good wine. I will not go out of my way to visit the restaurant again. Maybe our expectation was too high for the amount of stars this restaurant have. But we had a good time. This is just our opinion.

We had lunch at Prosopa. What a gem of a restaurant and so glad we discovered it through Restaurant Week. Our starters and mains were outstanding and Dino, the owner/manager, was there to explain everything and see to it that all was perfect. Definitely 5 star service, cuisine and ambience! Will be back for more.
