We enjoyed a six course taster-menu especially prepared for the restaurant week, and it was truly a feast for the eyes and a joy to eat. The restaurant part of the hotel is not too big, but it has a great ambiance and felt really cosy with the lit fireplace. Our waitress was engaging, yet professional and we had a fantastic evening. Will certainly be back for more.

We arrived early for drinks - their signature cocktails looked amazing... and they were! I had the 'Dash in a box' and 'Pomegranate', while my partner had the 'Goblet of Fire' and 'The Burning Bos'. Our barman, Rodney, was lovely and made us feel quite at home and the cocktails he made were simply divine. When we were ready we were taken to our table, and the wonderful Ben introduced himself.
I really do need to make special mention of Ben - he was exceptional! From how he presented the food to just general engagement he was integral in making our night something special.
The the food; we paid for 6 courses and technically got 10 - always a nice surprise. It was made even nicer as each dish was meticulously prepared, beautifully presented, and tasted like heaven. Basically it was Wow from start to finish. Our favourite dishes were hard to choose but the two that stood out the most was the spiced rub tuna loin and the rooibos-smoked tomato risotto. And then to top it all off we were given an extra dessert in the form of a gorgeous "welcome" platter of sweet treats.
Our night was truly spectacular and a very big thanks to the chef (and kitchen team), hostess/manageress, Rodney and Ben!
We went for dinner to Dash on Saturday night the 28th April.
My wife and I had the restaurant week special, which comprised a 6 course 'tasting' menu, and our guests opted instead for a rib eye steak and the Lamb wellington.
The rib-eye was outstanding and the Lamb Wellington also very good.

My wife and I had the restaurant week special, which comprised a 6 course 'tasting' menu, and our guests opted instead for a rib eye steak and the Lamb wellington.
The rib-eye was outstanding and the Lamb Wellington also very good.
Why I placed 'tasting' in inverted commas, is simply because this was far from the standard tasting menu.
The meal was in fact, more than enough to satisfy even the hungriest.
All the food was superb.
The only complaint I had was regarding the ham hock. I really did not enjoy it.
What an evening. The staff was very very friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make our evening special and comfortable. The food was spectacular, a real foodie experience. We had an amazing night!!
DASH is a great place and very elegant. Staff and service was excellent and the music from the piano man was an excellent addition to the atmosphere.
Food was good not great as i felt the Chef may have gone a bit over the top with some of the ingredients and also the spices in some food samples didn't combine in a way one could enjoy in full.
Overall it was an enjoyable moment.

About Dash Restaurant & Bar
Dash Restaurant and Bar
While Dash caters to guests of the Queen Victoria Hotel, it is also a stand-alone restaurant and bar that encourages patrons from near and far to enjoy its delectable cuisine. The bar is the perfect after-work drinks venue, with an extensive selection of single-malt whiskies and wines. The gleaming mirror ceilings and double-sided fireplace enhance the prevailing sense of wonder, together with the panoramic view in front of you.
The menu at Dash is beautifully curated by the newly appointed Head Chef, Ashraf Arendse. The inspiration behind his new menu was the use of simple ingredients paired with bold flavours, presented in a striking manner. This makes for an unmissable dining experience.
The interiors of Dash complement the sense of drama achieved with the contents of the uneven, oval-shaped plates. The artwork is supplied by the Everard Read Gallery across from the Portswood precinct and every few months it is replaced with new work by local artists. The parquet wooden flooring, black leather seats, quirky black Gregor Jenkin tables, and other-worldly mirrored wall unite to create an intimate and provocative space. We believe that going out to dine should be a formal occasion and have a theatrical element to it. Between the aesthetically pleasing dishes and the dramatic interiors of Dash, this principle is expertly executed.
