About Quayside Cabin
Cuisine: Seafood
Operating from little more than a container, owner Mike Alcock has slowly but surely turned it into one of the most appealing and popular seafood establishments in Hermanus. With its superb location, it’s no wonder that Quayside Cabin has built up a very loyal and cosmopolitan clientele comprising faithful regulars, holidaymakers from out of town, and plenty of overseas visitors.
The charming rustic décor comprises an eclectic mix of assorted memorabilia - whalebones, a wooden puppet, stiletto heels, a coffee grinder, to mention but a few of the interesting items hanging from the ceiling or displayed on the walls. Come rain or shine Quayside Cabin is busy, and when the weather is inclement the roll down blinds and well positioned heaters ensure that the interior remains remarkably warm and cosy.
The menu is surprisingly large (despite the fact that the restaurant is only a 65 seater), and it is one of only a few restaurants in Hermanus that serve locally caught Perlemoen. Starter recommendations are undoubtedly the Calamari (either deep-fried or as a steak), the smoked Snoek Samoosas, and the Oysters which are harvested just metres away. Popular choices on the main course side are the grilled Linefish (usually Cape Salmon, Cob and Yellowtail), the Seafood Hotpot, and the Kingklip Hermanus - topped with a creamy perlemoen and prawn sauce which is a Quayside Cabin speciality. For those who find it hard to pick and choose from the menu, the restaurant offers a substantial selection of Seafood Platters for one which are highly recommended.
