We arrived at The Eaves with great expectations. In most parts those expectations were met and even exceeded. The electric decor of this fine dining restaurant set in a relaxed country style hotel beautifully met the exquisite food that was the perfect combination of simple and complex. I loved the chandeliers hanging from the thatched roof. The presentation and unique combinations of the food is some of the best I've experience north of the winelands. Sublime textures and flavors complimented with great wine from their stunning little cellar.

However, my critique will be on the service. With well trained staff this restaurant will go from good to excellent. Their service let them down and the clumsiness with a great bottle of wine was unprofessional. We ordered a Meerlust Rubicon 1993 for the evening. The waitress broke the cork while trying to open. Disappeared into the kitchen where they pushed the cork into this stunning bottle of wine and then brought it back to us without telling us. Very disappointing and a pity that it overshadowed our experience.

This restaurant is amazing! We were staying in the Meander and came for dinner, to which we were welcomed with smiles from the front door. The hotel is country style and when sitting in the restaurant it is so relaxed, allows you to enjoy the food and wine at your own pace. We had the five course with wines the Friday night, great flavours, great wines choices and outstanding service. The most amazing thing about this is that the waitress knew her stuff, she was well informed and knowledge on wines and pairings outstanding. This restaurant is highly recommended when in the Meander, more so the five course pairing.
