The green pea and pancetta risotto was spectacular, but the mains were a bit 'ordinary'…I was expecting melt in your mouth sous vide’ d beef rib…but again, it was okay. The guinea fowl roulade was average; the skin on the roulade should have been rendered… to have limp skin on a roulade, simply not acceptable for a restaurant with Grande Provence’s reputation. The quail lolly was chewy and sinewy at the bone, coating delicious but no different from a southern fried coating we’ve used at home.
Desert finished off on a high note, not spectacular just high. I do agree with the previous diner as well, the portion size was exceptionally small, even considering that it was lunch and not dinner. And I would be as bold, to ask whether portions are scaled down for SA Restaurant week patrons?
The best part of our experience, the view and venue were absolutely beautiful…a very tranquil space to relax and unwind in.
we had an incredible lunch @ Grande Provence, sitting in the the lush gardens under grand trees. Was our first visit & definitely won't be our last :) Great value for money & an exquisite setting!!

Read full reviewWe had the opportunity of going to Grande Province through Restaurant Week. To be honest we were slightly disappointed, mainly because I had put them on quite a high pedestal being one of Franshhoeks top wine farms. The service was extremely poor from our waitor, for the quality of food offered the waitor need to match that standard. He could not describe the meals, brought the wrong wine, didn't bring any bread etc.
The food was good, it could have been bigger portions though - I hope they didn't make it smaller for restuarant week?! The highlight was probably the cauliflower soup amuse bouche which was fantastic. They also brought special gluten free bread for us, we really appreciated that.
The venue is probably the best part of this restaurant, really relaxing under the trees.
I hope the next experience we have there will be better.
Divine food, very relaxed atmosphere and delicious wine.
It was a bit pricy, however, so be prepared to spend!

About The Restaurant at Grande Provence
Cuisine: French
While the 18th Century Manor House and The Owner’s Cottage reflect their Huguenot heritage, The Restaurant and wine-tasting area of Grande Provence project a chic industrial presence.
Steel joinery, galvanised metals and skylights distinguish this design approach. Interior Designer Virginia Fisher explains, “In essence, Grande Provence is an estate of senses, providing guests with a full working farm experience, with spaces to be used and spaces to be admired, and these expanses of space allow us to do that. The two design styles are harmonised by a complementary palette, but time separates them.”
High-backed chairs upholstered in white leather draw the eye to the centre of the deep blue-grey Restaurant, while deep, slotted windows frame the picturesque view from the interior. The menus exude culinary excellence, with the signature dishes of The Restaurant hitting all the right notes – honest, fresh and delicious. Prepared from local fare and flavoured with global influences both modern and classical, the cuisine is characterised by a philosophy of innovation through passion and simplicity.
Leading off The Restaurant is the welcoming wine-tasting area. The bar dominates the centre of the room - striking in galvanised steel with black strapping. A touch of fun is evident with the tractor seat bar stools, while a fireplace and upholstered chairs soften the perimeter of the room, inviting guests to sit back and savor every sip.
