A the entance it clearly states to wait to be seated, but with an empty restaurant and 3 waiters we definitely waited to be seated. upon sitting in the Restaurant Week section, the waiter didn't introduce herself or explain. there was no welcome. she handed us drinks menus as the food menu was already on the table. we then waited very long beforr the waiter to took our drinks order. again waited another very long time before I could get the attention of a waiter to ask about how it all works. I asked her about the food and she's like "oh you want it now" then when we get the food, it's the half of the menu all at once. it was essentially a 4-course meal but I would've thought it would be brought in stages. we then ate the second course and asked her to put the 3rd course in the warmer as the food would get cold while we're eating the 2nd course. she then brought the 1st course - which was not a tasty meal at all and too big a bowl for a 1st course. we hardly ate of it then asked for our main to come. it was steak. we weren't asked how we wanted the steak cooked (terrible). we wanted another cocktail but they had removed the menu from our table for some reason. the cocktails are poor quality in respect to the price & volume/quantity of it. My fiance's cocktail came first and mine came 5 minutes later. the dessert was lack-lustre - dough and melted chocolate. The manager also proceeded to scold the staff infront of the restaurant. two table came in and left because the waiters service was pathetically slow, a woman even came to let them know that her and her girlfriends have been waiting for 10 minutes for a waiter to come to their table.

The whole experience was a shit show to say the least. on top of that the restaurant didn't even have my booking from Restaurant Week so luckily I called to double check. overall this was a bad experience. undeniably.

I have often passed by this intriguing spot, but had yet to stop in. The place has a definite hip vibe about it. It always seemed busy, and I can see why.

The Miso Aubergine was unexpectedly served cold, like a salad, but pleasantly delicious. I especially loved the little fried smokie crunchy bits and cool Honey Cream Cheese, and it all was accented by just enough spicy 'heat'.

The Ham Croquetas were nicely crispy. The Mustard Seed Aioli it was accompanied by was deserving of its name, and the Peas with fresh mint and red onions could not have tasted fresher.

The tender Rib-Eye was seasoned nicely, char-grilled, and had lovely flavor. The Chilli-Pea Puree was also fresh and had a nice kick. The homemade Truffle Potato Crisps were well seasoned, very light, and crispy.

Wow! I am blown away by the Churros! I challenge any Spaniard or Mexican to dare say these don't taste like home. They arrived at the table steaming hot. Delicately golden and crisp on the outside with a light and creamy (almost custard like) inside. Served with a smooth and not too heavy, rich, Dark Chocolate Ganache Dip.... a completely guilty pleasure, but soooo worth it!

Tasty well presented food without being pretentious, cool viby atmos.

It seemed to take a little while for the staff to comprehend that I should have a special menu for the Restaurant Week, although I confirm this to 2 different staff upon arrival. And twice more I had to request from my waitron that the regular menu I had been presented with upon seating be exchanged for the special Restaurant Week menu. Otherwise, all of the staff were good and smiling.

My Cuatro (4) Tapas Por R200 were satisfying portions, yet still affordable, and made for an enjoyable way to celebrate Restaurant Week South Africa.

The food was absolutely delicious.
Presentation was on point! The service was equally good!.. the only thing I did not really like was the cocktails.. it tasted watered down.. they did however attempt to correct this.

An amazing night despite an initial mix up with the booking-they hadn't received it and we were the only diners doing the set menu-but the manager and staff went out of their way to find us a table, and threw in complementary drinks to make up for the mix up. The food was excellent - a really nice selection of courses, well presented and delicious, with good attention to detail. We had a lovely time in this vibrant venue, and would definitely come back for tapas and cocktails in future.

About La Parada (Bree Street)

Cuisine: Spanish / Tapas

La Parada (Bree Street)

La Parada Tapas Bar in Bree Street – Cape Town’s hottest food strip – is a tribute to the Spanish bars that bewitched Hemmingway. La Parada with its chef Martin Senekal offers the best, most authentic tapas in town.

The interior is impressive, boasting ornate pressed ceilings, an eclectic mix of chairs and lampshades and a golden bull’s head for good measure. The restaurant specializes in authentic tapas, a favourite amongst the Capetonian foodies, incorporating an authentic Spanish flair. With many patrons popping in for afternoon drinks and a light bite, rather than a sit down dinner – which is after all the origin of tapas – the drinks list encourages as much experimentation as the menu.

The gypsy-chic decor, vibrant atmosphere and excellent tapas make this a fine spot for a quick lunch, after work relaxing, casual get together with friends,  late-night carousing or a work get-together. In Constantia Nek, with the views and ambience, it’s the ideal meeting place for Sunday breakfasts and long lunches.
