After an inauspicious start (the restaurant didn't have our Restaurant Week booking - I think the incorrect name was sent through) all three of us followed the waiter's advice and ordered the mushroom soup. We'd all had decision trauma - mussels being my favorite normally, and the warm salad sounded different and enticing. The mushroom soup was superb! The two who had the lamb pronounced it delicious and I was delighted with my fish - wishing I had room for more of their delicious bread to soak up the last of the sauce as we'd all done with the soup.
Both dessert options were excellent - a warm chocolate and blueberries pot which I devoured and a frozen nougat which I was allowed a small taste.
All in all, one of the best Restaurant Week options I have enjoyed over the years.

Having never heard about this restaurant before we had no idea what to expect. From the name we expected rustic type dishes, but that certainly wasn’t the case.

The old barn conversion now a Restaurant and Cellar with decor of a bygone era. An ode to the Voortrekker era, from wagon wheels to paintings and even preserves of every kind.

The wait staff was attentive and friendly and didn’t hover which was good.

The staters were amazing and a hit all round.
Mains were met with mixed reviews.
Dessert was a non starter sadly.

There were a few standouts namely the Mussel Starter and Mushroom Soup and most colourful Sweet Potato Salad.

All round a good experience and a 4,5/10 for the start of Restaurant Week Experience for us.

We travelled to Hout Bay with some friends and had a wonderful lunch together in the garden.

The food and service were excellent, and we will definitely be back soon.

We also got to drink a very rare wine which was a bonus !

About Quentin at Oakhurst

Cuisine: International

Quentin at Oakhurst

Located on one of the original Hout Bay farms, the Quentin at Oakhurst restaurant and cellar will follow in the footsteps of generations of family food farming and cooking traditions. Located in the upper regions of the valley, juxtaposed by two rivers, sourced on rich flood plain soils, and dwarfed by the Skoorsteenspoort escarpment, this farm sustained and nurtured the valley’s residents with a bounty of meats, fowls, dairy, wine and vegetables for over a hundred years.

The existing barn served as the heart of this production. The steel wall hoops hark back to the days when the dairy herd was milked here and when the adjacent cellar still carried grapes from fermentation to wine. The recent renovation of the barn retains and celebrates this rich vein of Cape and associated culinary heritage.

The gurgling of rapid water, the scurry of guinea fowl and the crack of acorns underfoot, embraced by the coolness of the majestic and mighty oak tree’s canopy, make for a magnificent setting which serves as an extraordinary inspiration and epiphany for this talented Cape cook.

So as not to miss the opportunity to dine with loved ones, family and friends, at what will undoubtedly be a landmark food destination over the upcoming spring and summer season, patrons are strongly advised to book now.
