The restaurant did not have our reservation. Upon arrival I mentioned we booked via Restaurant Week the hostess told me "I didn't take your booking". I didn't say she did, I said we booked via Restaurant Week and received 2 reminders and could not understand why the actual restaurant is not aware of our booking.
We then got seated and presented with the normal restaurant menu, nothing was explained about what is included on the menu as part of the special that they are running for Restaurant Week. I then got up from the table went back to the hostess to ask about the menu, she said she doesn't know and would need to speak to the manager of the restaurant. I saw her go up to him and explained the situation and he was reluctant to come over to speak to me. With some prompting from the hostess he then walked over to me. He then wanted to know from me what I knew about the Restaurant Week special that they are running. I briefly explained what my understanding was and only thereafter was I presented with 1 A5 laminated menu with options for starter, mains and dessert. How can a restaurant manager expect a customer to explain to him what his restaurant should be doing / offering with regards to Restaurant Week?
I ordered the 200g sirloin steak and received a cold (out of the fridge) little container with béarnaise sauce which could not be called a sauce as it was solid, it was the consistency of a spread. I queried this with the waiter who then took it to the kitchen to be warmed and the manager then came to advise me that it is a "Cattle Baron" thing to serve the sauce cold but they "didn't mind" to warm it up for me. I find this difficult to believe that a restaurant serves a solid spread like consistency béarnaise.
If that was not enough, we were presented with our bill, before we even received our dessert. My jaw dropped. We did not even request our bill yet.
I am really disappointed, this was our first visit to the Cattle Baron and I highly doubt that we will be returning anytime soon.
