We started our Restaurant Week South Africa experience with Nobu at the One&Only Cape Town

First impressions last…

This certainly describes our experience at Nobu’s One and Only on the first night of Restaurant week.

From the moment we arrived at the hotel premises to the time we entered the restaurant, we were impressed by the courteousness and efficiency of the staff.

Whilst unexpected, the welcome chant “Irasshasmase” added to its ambience. "Irasshaimase!" (いらっしゃいませ!), meaning "Welcome to the store!" or "Come on in! lead one to believe a great evening was about to begin.

Once we were seated in the restaurant, we are immediately struck by the magnificent setting. Our waiter Tapiwe or “Taps” is he is known to regulars, was not only friendly but knowledgeable of all the dishes on the Nobu Menu and his pleasant demeanor added to excitement of the evening.

The six course meal offered a variety of flavors, which was not only visually appealing but well worth the experience.

Each dish held its own appeal and presented an opportunity to experience various combinations of flavors.

My favorite dish on the night was the Tempura Kingklip, Amazu Ponzu, and Watermelon. I was intrigued by the combination and amazed by the delicious and piquant flavors.

A pleasant evening spent in the company of good friends, enjoying good food.

From the moment we walked in we were treated like royalty and served the most delicious meals. Our waiter Tapiwa was very friendly and accommodating and we will definitely be back, making sure he serves us again.

As for the food, prepare your taste buds for a truly unique experience, peppered with authentic Japanese dishes culminating into a frenzy of flavours.

About Nobu

Cuisine: Japanese / Sushi

Nobu

No stranger to international culinary influences, Nobu gives classical Japanese cuisine a contemporary twist with a Peruvian influence. Diners can indulge in fresh South African seafood and indigenous spices in mesmerising dishes such as Sake Roast Whitefish with Jalapeno or the Chocolate Bento Box; a dark chocolate fondant with green tea ice cream and a sesame seed tuile. A sweeping fan-like staircase leads to the 104 seat dining area and sushi counter, which is framed by a textured, translucent origami light that glides along the ceiling. The upper-level Nobu Lounge features a selection of Sakes including Japanese beer and Shochu based cocktails.
