NCW Restaurant

Chef Ence Willemse, who has previously worked at award-winning restaurants Roots in Krugersdorp and Overture in Stellenbosch, has opened a new restaurant in Melville called NCW. In addition to the boutique eatery with a seasonal menu, NCW will offer a space for cocktail parties, exhibitions and pop-ups.

The style of food might be labelled fine dining, but Ence calls it ‘food with a story’. Part of that story is a focus on the provenance of the ingredients he uses, from the farm to his kitchen. This philosophy extends to the wine offering, each bottle of which has a great story to tell.

The Edwardian building that houses the restaurant overlooking Main Road in Melville has been lovingly restored. The chef lives in another restored residence on the property. This venue has been hard-won: Ence even put in a blue-collar stint to raise the capital he needed to bring NCW to life.

From the warm welcome with a glass of bubbly to the tour around the beautiful well decorated private dining areas before you are taken to the small and cozy dining area, wow. Exclusive wines with great food and best service in town. Worth every cent and will definitely be back for these wines Justin spoiled us with. Well done NCW.

"Dining @ NCW"

Overall, great dining experience! There were one or two things that were "out of place". Two of our courses were mixed up and we ended up getting our main course before our salad. A bit disappointing but it wouldn't stop me from going there again. The second thing was that our dessert, poached pears, weren't properly poached. Mine were quite firm. I would definitely recommend the potato soup. Although it sounds quite basic, this by itself, was one of the greatest meals I've ever eaten. The combination of hot and cold, salty aromas with a rich truffle taste to follow, this really makes for one amazing experience. Lastly, the wine: Great selection, top class wines for special occasions can be found here. I do feel that with a 350% markup on average, that they are trying to con their guests. Come on guys! Most high-end restaurants I have dined at have an average of 200% to 250% markup on their wines which I have always had little to no issue with, but 350% is really quite excessive! Nonetheless, I would definitely visit again.
