Firstly, the restaurant was very accommodating when our fellow diners had to cancel and it was just the 2 of us. I called and they advised that it was ok. This is really incredible. Thank you.
The welcome service was full of smiles. I really enjoyed that. The gentlemen and lady who served us during the night were courteous and knowledgeable about the food.
The food itself was both good and ok. The meals that stood out were the starters, an amazing pea soup on cold basil ice cream that just complemented each other so well - real genius; and a great chickpea and red pepper salad, where the vinaigrette was the star of the meal.
The desert was tasty. It was creme brûlée and made well.
The main of seafood risotto and the pre-main chicken were let downs. I could not finish both. The chicken was a bit dry and did not go well with the hard sorghum; and the seafood risotto was too hard and not a pleasant flavour for both my husband and myself.
The Mac ‘n Cheese was definitely better (which I tasted from my husband) - it had marrow bone, which was very nicely seasoned and cooked.
Overall, it was good value for money for the Restaurant Week Price.
I’m certain that as the restaurant grows, they will get better and better.
All round excellent night out - food and service was above excellent and a thoroughly wonderful experience
Will be back
We were greeted and taken on a tour of the space and were warmly welcomed and looked after - it was wonderful service.

The chicken course seemed a bit bland and lacked va va voom - my osso bucco was fine but simon’s Marrow bone was raw - we were offered another but I declined. The chick pea course seemed an after thought and didn’t gel with the rest of the evening it could have been served with the chicken. As a stand alone it was missing something as it was more like a dip. The dessert was delicious and I enjoyed that very much. Perhaps I’ll come
Back when it’s not restaurant week to try the normal menu.

About NCW Restaurant
Cuisine: Fine Dining
NCW Restaurant
Chef Ence Willemse, who has previously worked at award-winning restaurants Roots in Krugersdorp and Overture in Stellenbosch, has opened a new restaurant in Melville called NCW. In addition to the boutique eatery with a seasonal menu, NCW will offer a space for cocktail parties, exhibitions and pop-ups.
The style of food might be labelled fine dining, but Ence calls it ‘food with a story’. Part of that story is a focus on the provenance of the ingredients he uses, from the farm to his kitchen. This philosophy extends to the wine offering, each bottle of which has a great story to tell.
The Edwardian building that houses the restaurant overlooking Main Road in Melville has been lovingly restored. The chef lives in another restored residence on the property. This venue has been hard-won: Ence even put in a blue-collar stint to raise the capital he needed to bring NCW to life.
