Excellent, very creative menu with good wine pairing. We really enjoyed the ‘this is not an ashtray’ dish! Strongly recommended for a leisurely lunch....!
I went to Gate at Quoin Rock today and I walked away from lunch wanting to return for dinner as soon as time (and budget) allows.

The new chef (Pauline I think her name is?) was present, the service was truly flawless from start to finish and the theatrics of the food were thrilling and not let down in the slightest by their taste. Of course, the cigar is a dish that people have spoken about quite often, but Gate’s innovative take on a Caprese salad, the compressed strawberries perfectly accompanying - without overpowering - the natural winning taste of the oysters, and the sous vide duck were all true winners.
We did not do the pairing and had MCC instead but our lovely waitress poured a taster of their other MCC in a glass as I’d asked about it and gave my partner and I small tasters of their Shiraz and red blend to accompany our duck course which I thought was just very kind. The service is truly generous and the setting is simply sublime.
The ambience here is also quite something. It’s a seamless blend of Scandinavian minimalism and modernity that results in a peaceful and warm environment that I felt like I could just languish in all day.
I’m so pleased I went today, and I hope to return for dinner when the new chef has brought her own style to the menu (which I believe might happen after a short winter break according to our waitress).
