Great spot, less Japanese yet more overall Asian. Very pricey if you do not go there for a special
We had a wonderful Asian Lunch at Oku (Restaurant Week) It was our first visit here and it was beyond our expectations.
Food & Service was amazing - hope to be back soon !

We were blown away with each course we had. Flavor combinations and delicious surprises were throughout the meal and made for an overall wonderful experience. The waitstaff were attentive and great, able to answer questions about the restaurant and the food and willing to ask the chef when not. I would recommend Oku to anyone.
The Kaiseki Menu was really an experience in Asian cuisine, everything well presented, flavorsome and interesting. Knowledge about the offered wines could be an area of improvement, especially that there's not such an elaborate wine list. But we enjoyed our lunch and would come back for more 'punishment' even though we are not living close by.

I am consistently amazed by the astounding service, the delectable food and the beautiful venue. The zen atmosphere is elevated by the calming Japanese music and the bonsai trees on the walls. On this specific occasion, I was greeted by the most beautiful little Origami bird and a welcome drink of Bas Bubbles MCC. I have been many times to this wonderful place and I plan to go many times more. Thank you Oku for an incredibly beautiful eating experience.

About Ōku
Cuisine: Japanese / Sushi, Vegetarian
Oku Franschhoek’s first Asian eatery
The highly anticipated opening of Ōku, the concept and vision of Chef/restaurateur duo Ryan Shell and Darren Badenhorst (Le coin Français, Le chêne and Tuk Tuk Microbrewery), is here.
The two acclaimed chefs, with over 30 years of hospitality experience, are pooling their culinary prowess to create Franschhoek’s first South East Asian eatery.
Total renovations of the interior and exterior ensure a purpose designed space to create a casual, calming and refined eating experience.
Conceptualised on a culinary exploration of Indonesia in 2013, Darren and Ryan were especially inspired by the Gili Islands.
The two chefs had ample time to refine the idea whilst working together to feed the Franschhoek community during the Covid-19 lock down period, resulting in a thoroughly conceptualised, authentic and flavour packed food and beverage offering.
Bookings essential to avoid disappointment.
