We booked Grill Jichana for my birthday dinner and we were really impressed by everything.
We haven eaten at the one in Durban so was pleasantly when we saw they had one here in Johannesburg. We arrived at 6:30pm and warmly welcomed and taken to our table. Tubby was our waitress for the evening and was such a pleasant person with a smile on her face throughout the even. I loved how the restaurant was not cramped and we had enough space between other diners. I also loved the ambience and soft music playing in the background. We were offered the wine list and a bottle of water for the table. After a day of wine tasting I decided to have a cocktail, Puza Thursday which was yum. My partner stuck to his water. Now for the food. We both chose the prawn gratin for starters which came with two slices of toasted bread. The starter was good however the prawns were a big chewy. For mains I opted for the steak with the compound butter, chips and steamed vegetables and hubby chose the line fish with mash, spinach and sauce. My steak was medium rare just the way I liked it. It was melt in the mouth and I honestly cannot fault the steak at all. I tasted abit of the fish and it was really good. My husband really enjoyed his meal. For dessert I had the lemon tart and hubby had the malva pudding. The sorbet was abit too tart for me but the tart was nice. The malva pudding wasn't a traditional malva but was nice enough. Overall a great evening, waitress was amazing and a great birthday dinner.
