We decided to take advantage of the fantastic deal they had running until November 5, 2023, through www.restaurantweek.co.za. First of all, the views from the restaurant were absolutely breathtaking. We had the pleasure of sitting on a glass-enclosed deck, which provided us with a stunning backdrop for our meal. To top it off, we were welcomed with a glass of champagne upon our arrival.
The dining experience was a culinary delight. We had the option to choose from one of three starters to share, a main course each, and a dessert to share. What's more, each course was expertly paired with a house wine that was simply delicious.
Our shared starter was the Prawn and mussel arancini with spek boom pesto, crispy capers, pickled cucumbers, and a smoked salmon mousse. It was incredibly filling and was paired with a Sauvignon Blanc. My husband ordered the grilled chalmar Beef Fillet with charred corn puree, baby vegetables, a corn fritter, and spiced jus, all beautifully paired with a Shiraz. As for me, I had the Soy and honey-glazed pork belly with cauliflower puree, caramelized baby onions, blushed cherry tomatoes, potato skin crisps, and carrot powder, which was paired with a Merlot. Each course was a revelation; the meats practically melted in our mouths.
For dessert, we shared the Espresso Dark Chocolate cheesecake with a hazelnut cookie crumb, creme diplomat, and brandy reduction. I can honestly say it was the best dessert I've ever had. The flavors were exquisite, and it provided a perfect ending to our meal.
But what truly set this experience apart was our waiter, Jurie. He was without a doubt the best waiter I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Jurie was not only extremely attentive but also incredibly knowledgeable about the wine pairings. He took the time to explain why each wine went so well with the course we had chosen.
I was particularly impressed by how quickly Jurie cleared our glasses and dishes the moment they were empty. This level of service added to the overall enjoyment of our meal.
We left the restaurant with a sense of contentment and a touch of giddiness, thanks in part to the wine. It was an unforgettable dining experience, and I can't recommend The Tangram Restaurant enough. It's a perfect choice for special occasions or simply for a memorable evening out. Here's to more exciting culinary adventures!
