Read full reviewI was initially dubious about keeping this reservation given the stormy JHB weather. I am glad that we did not cancel. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and shown to one of the booth settings. This was wonderful and private yet allowing for a full view of the interesting and tasteful decor. Our waitress, Thuli, was gracious and helpful. She contributed a wonderful experience. We were greatest with an amuse-bouche, butternut soup with a hint of curry. It was delicious with the straw bread. Our starters were fantastic. We had order each of the 3 available and all were inhaled. The pear and almond salad looked beautiful and fresh. The salmon parfait looked light and creamy - was balance in flavour. The venison carpaccio was a significant portion size and well enjoyed. Mains were satisfying and the prawn platter deserves a special mention. It was thoroughly enjoyed. Desserts, choc fondant, creme brûlée and Mille feuille were all divine. We had a wonderful dining experience. On a general note, the ordered wines and champagnes were available. The restaurant was fully booked and had a lovely ambience. The staff, including manager, were visible attentive and friendly. Overall, a delightfully satisfying experience.
The food was excellent with service to match.
We had a great evening.
Pricing on the wine list is a bit over the top.
Everything about the evening was good, dessert was the highlight of our evening. The only thing that was disappointing was that on the restaurant week website, the starter menu had carpaccio and oysters as options, however when at the restaurant they did not have that as an option. So that was the downside of the booking.
Regrettably the main courses of the set menu were very disappointing and underwhelming. We were made to feel as if we chose a 'cheap' option and thus received substandard food, in comparison with a la carte diners. I frequent Pigalle often and felt the main courses to be disastrous. The starters, dessert and service were wonderful!
Food was delicious. The service was excellent. Kind and knowledgeable staff. Great wines.
