I arrived excited after much tweeting and facebooking about my long awaited dinner here to find that not only was my booking of two weeks back not on their roster but that the waiter then did not know what 'restaurant week' was and asked why we had not ordered off the main menu when I asked about it. I had to walk back again to the entrance, ask for the manager (who had already told me that he had no booking under my name) with all the confused waiters and then explain that I had booked weeks back, that I was here for RESTAURANT WEEK and could he please call the main branch to find out about it.
Thabo; Alec (the GM who didn't even come over) the other manager Patience (who was very sweet) were not able to assist with this confusion.. In fact I hear that this branch has not one but four managerial staff on hand... and after my experience.. there is an expression 'too many chiefs and not enough Indians' that applies to Meat Co. Melrose Arch.
Eventually, I was able to go back to my date and table with the 'restaurant week' menu and started off with:
The calamari - which was chewy and over-cooked.. I left it.
Everyone who knows me knows that I LOVE food so for me to leave food, its really not good because I eat everything..
On this visit, I actually left both my starter and my dessert!
Anyway.. onto the mains..
Mains, I stuck to something that I know they do well - the rump steak with baked potatoes which was good. I was surprised and also relieved. Watch out for the piping hot plates by the way.. mine was scorching and I burnt my hand.
Dessert however left me back to square one, disappointed. The creme brûlée was so segmented and lumpy under the layer of sugar that I had to leave it as well. Awful awful awful and I felt bad when Alfred came back to the table to apologise, saying that he had seen the dessert.
To summarise the evening.. Sadly from start to finish in the food department- so very disappointing. The only reason it still has a vaguely decent rating from me is due to our sweet waiter, Alfred.
I will never go back.

Reservation made two weeks back, just didn't exist when we arrived and asked for our table. We then had to stand around.
We were then seated. Both waiters that served us didn't know what Restaurant Week was, and my girlfriend had to keep walking to the main desk to ask for both our drinks and to explain about:
1. Our booking (that didn't exist)
2. What Restaurant Week was which got lots of blank faces and looks..
Food: Calamari starter was chewy and over-cooked.
Rump steak was okay.
Creme Brulee dessert was watery, completely separated and lumpy. I tried to eat eat it but it actually tasted off.
My date hardly ate anything and we left.
I wont be back.
