Villa San Giovanni has been owned and operated by the Maiorana family since 1981. The calm and spacious interior is appealing with beautifully presented tables and handsome hand-crafted display cabinets, especially the magnificently carved and decorated wine cabinet. And an evenly impressive wine list. It was heart-warming to see that Giovanni and his wife Maria are also still at the restaurant, greeting patrons by the name and making everybody feel like they are part of the family.
Thomas our waitron of the evening did not know about the Dining week but he was informed by Luca, the host for the evening. We were presented with a set menu comprising of two options. A starter and mains or a mains and dessert of tiramisu.
The mussel starter carried just the right amount of fresh garlic. Both the pasta dishes were rich in butter and homemade. Soft and enjoyable on the palate and the shrimps well prepared by Christian, as taught by Giovanni his father.
It was a good experience not a wow taste explosion. It was good but average as Pretoria has a wide selection of restaurants to compete. Therefore averages score for the averagely good meal and experience.

It was a good experience despite not producing many wow taste explosions. Overall an average night as Pretoria has a wide selection of restaurants that compete. Therefore averages score for the averagely good meal and experience.
Great food and atmosphere. The lunch choice for Restaurant week was excellent !
So , signed up to Dining week to experience some really fine dining experience . The strawberry/mushroom starter has to be the most unusual flavour combination I have ever had - does it work ? Not really no . not bad but just doesnt really work well together . Main was good - fillet with choice of starch and dessert...

The strawberry/mushroom starter has to be the most unusual flavour combination I have ever had - does it work ? Not really no . not bad but just doesnt really work well together . Main was good - fillet with choice of starch and dessert was tiramiso . Was just expecting a wow taste explosion and it was good but I can get good most everywhere else . Thus the average score - for an averagely good meal . A big disappointment was when we were informed it was a set meal - no choice selection . I think as a restaurant you would want to present a selection of your finest dishes - or perhaps it was too much effort ? Average all round

About Villa San Giovanni
Villa San Giovanni symbolises the family's long journey as well as the traditional, easy going and friendly southern Italian customs in which Giovanni grew up. "What we eat lies at the heart and soul of our beings and is the embodiment of what the Maiorana family is all about. Food has always been used as a means to channel the celebration of life; our meals provide a connection to the past as we reminisce about the good old days back home in Italy
