We had lunch at Balata restaurant,i was impressed with how prepared they were with our reservation. The food was presented beautifully i loved the stuffed chicken breast and the starter. Only thing that must improve is the waitrons attention she took too long between meals, to check if we were ok but either than that her service was fine.
We went to Balata for lunch. The service was very good and we were attended too very well. Unfortunately the food was a tremendous let down. There was cartilage pieces in the chicken and the fish was over cooked and poorly seasoned. The accompanying vegetables were also tasteless. Not a great wine selection offered either.
Received a very warm welcome. My seat was pulled out for me (Yes indeed)! The service was prompt, the food amazing (I need that mash recipe), the duck was succulent and falling off the bone... Big up to an all round 7 star experience!

Read full reviewWe usually visit Balata for their Sunday Buffet Lunches but decided to book here for Restaurant week. There was nothing wrong with the meal despite the fact that it simply did not live up to the expectations that the menu created. The food was presented beautifully but lacked the expected flavour. Service was friendly but not as professional as one would expect i.e. pouring sparkling wine wrong and not clearing the table etc. Despite this average meal, it still remains one of our favourite venues.
The starter was great, both the prawns and the kudu. Mains was dissapointing. And dessert even more so. What upsetted me and my partner was that the menu was falsely advertised. The menu was to cost R175 for 3 courses. We were charged R240 because they assumed we wanted the dessert. When questioned, the waiter said that the system is loaded like that.

Entertaining options at The Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort are aplenty, but Balata Restaurant deserves the first mention. Offering a variety of seating arrangements, vibrant décor colours and modern fireplaces, the restaurant is famous for its outstanding breakfasts. Light business lunches are popular, but Balata is certainly known for its exquisite fine dining under the leadership of Executive Chef Jean-Pierre Siegenthaler. The Sunday buffet lunch is a culinary feast not to be missed and romantic fine dining dinner next to the fireplace is high in demand.
