This year we only chose to visit one venue for restaurant week, and we are so pleased that we selected Newton Johnson to be "the one".
In contrast to many other restaurants who take part in this promotional event yet offer the mere minimum, this restaurant truly embraces restaurant week for the great marketing opportunity that it is. From the moment you hit the seat you are treated - not as a mere "specials" guests - but as a valued patron. The meal started with a gorgeous complimentary bread, spreads and snacks board which set the tone for the quality of the rest of the meal. Every flavour and texture combination offered throughout the three course meal was innovative and unique. Visual presentation was pleasing with impeccable detail. Service was friendly, professional, and those who attended to us were all very knowledgeable about the dishes as well as food in general. We enjoyed a bottle of the estate Chardonnay - something I will return to the cellar for in future. The only reason why I did not assign a 5-star rating for ambience, was because, due to the size of the restaurant, a full house results in a very vibey, but unfortunately noisy atmosphere - with patrons sitting across from each other having to raise their voices to be heard. It is such a beautiful setting that it is a pity that the layout does not allow for a tad more peace and quite while enjoying such an exquisite meal.Overall - a 5+ star experience!

"Delicious calm after the storm"

We had lunch on a sunny clear day after the first true Cape storm of winter. Service was attentive and prompt.

Food was delicious. The white gazpacho excellent and the fish perfectly cooked.

A perfectly calm enjoyable meal. Recommended.

Lovely lunch venue in the wine lands with a view of the surrounding mountains and the see way down below. Great wine and delicious food . Because of the set menu I made more adventurous choices - the almond soup and the duck sklipaadtjie were both superb. Will be back.

About The Restaurant at Newton Johnson

Cuisine: Fine Dining

The Restaurant at Newton Johnson is a modern South African eatery. A space where contemporary and bygone cuisine is combined with relaxed yet precise service. The restaurant showcases local, seasonal produce, bringing a piece of the Overberg to the table.

Chef Eric Bulpitt and his team have a common respect for nature and the produce it offers and, intelligently combine them on the plate. Together they are constantly discovering and sourcing new and forgotten ingredients. Preserving, pickling, fermenting, smoking and open fire cooking embodies their cuisine.

The kitchen is the place where creativity flows. Menus are concise, allowing for more focus and are constantly evolving with the seasons. There is a sense of freedom as the menus are spontaneously changed.
