Wonderful evening.. the food, atmosphere and service was above board.

Each member of staff felt compelled to check on our health and enjoyment of the evening even when we were trying to have a conversation. Not unpleasant but rather meddlesome. The Monarch restaurant is elegant and warm, the food was excellent. The wine is however expensive and had the service been slightly less "participatory" we would have enjoyed it more.

Artistically presented, and bursting with a subtle spicy flavour, it was like an edible Miró! One of the best starters I have had, anywhere, to date.
Very attentive staff
The food was enjoyable but more could have been done with the starter - I was expecting more then a grilled artichoke heart on bruchetta with a slice of blue cheese.
The wine list is ridiculously overpriced and shows this restaurant is not looking to attract local crowds with the cheapest bottle of white wine being R200.
This was a frustrating experience. We started with grilled artichokes with blue cheese on a streak of hummus. The main course4 we selected beef fillet with herbed potato, jus and fennel. All very nicely cooked but not really inspiring. The shock (and frustration) we felt emanates from the grossly overpriced wine (500% markup!!!). The service was fantastic - almost too good.
