From the moment we sat down until we finished our meals it was a absolute dream, the owner is a real Gem and made is feel so wanted. The food, service and wine was exceptional.
What an experience! I was very intrigued by a restaurant with no service staff but the size makes it more understandable. Although this is a small space it does not show for the huge amount of effort and love which goes into making this experience one to remember. The chef, Judy, guides you through her masterpiece o...

Our number 1 choice for the Restaurants week.
a Delightful little place! Loved the decor and the very yummy, tasty fresh food;
beautifully presented and very generous portion. Best of breed modern style cafe cuisine. They have a wonderfully creative G&T- and wine list, and sitting in the heart of Cape Town overlooking the square sipping an ice-cold glass makes for a wonderful meal out. Highly recommended.
We loved the experience created for us at Pilcrow & Cleaver! From the food, the service (by the chefs themselves), the no-tip policy and the ambience - everything was amazing! Will definitely recommend to friends and family and will be back soon!
Enjoyed an excellent lunch at Pilcrow & Cleaver - I've been lucky enough to visit a few times and the experience is always world class.

I'll definitely be back

Pilcrow & Cleaver is the delicious brainchild of Chef Judi Fourie; a Cape Town restaurant fierce with bold modern flavours.
With no service staff, and no doors, windows or walls to our professional kitchen, Pilcrow & Cleaver puts you in direct contact with the chefs and cooks that make your food. We invite you to smell and anticipate modern European daily inspired menus of small plates, mains and desserts. Swirl a glass of proudly South African wine over dinner or unwind after work at our separate bar section. Browse our retail shelf’s homemade delicacies and contemplate a recipe in our bespoke cookbook collection. Or talk to us as we prepare homemade flavours right in front of you. We are pet-friendly, follow the no-tipping movement, the first restaurant in Cape Town to serve Father Coffee and during the COVID-19 lockdown we are still open for business.
Hi, I'm Chef Judi
And welcome to Pilcrow & Cleaver, a new paragraph with a different twist, something that I have dreamt about and cooked into realisation for the last 15 years.
The passion for food started to pulsate through my veins from a very young age and for the last decade I have been on a culinary journey of exploration around the world. My travels have inspired me to find new dishes, experience unique flavours and taste different food to bring it all together and share it with you from my kitchen at Pilcrow & Cleaver, right here, in the vibrant heart of Cape Town.
Food is an experiment-experience that evokes emotion. It is not perfection, it’s about expression. Cooking is an art, and the kitchen is my canvas and I want you to join me as a create dishes with a modern flair; highlighting the different unique flavours of each and every ingredient.
Let’s eat.
Hi Stuart, thank you for taking the time to write an excellent review for us. We hope to host you in the future again. Thank you for spending your Easter Sunday with us. Regards Judi
