Having arrived early for the dinner service, we sat out on the balcony, looking up at Table Mountain while we considered the drinks menu. We were spoilt with complimentary champagne, but also order a whiskey sours and elderflower cocktail for ourselves as well.
The meal is another conversation. Escorted to our table by our very friendly waitress, who had helped us with our drink choices earlier on, we looked forward to a night of good food. and what we got, was so much better...
Starting off the 6 course dinner, we were served a flavor bomb mushroom port soup that immediately got the tongue tingling, and shifted the bar of expectation way high. Not only did the next 5 dishes live up to this expectation, but far exceeded it. Next off we were served the spiced tuna loin, continuing the trend of intense flavors, but now presented on a cold dish.
My partner and I got to try two dishes we'd never had before: the ham hock terrine and chermoula lamb wellington. Both were incredible and I'm so happy that the first time we had these were at Dash. I wouldn't hesitate a second to order them again here or at any other restaurant.
Lastly, I have to mention the amazing rooibos smoked risotto. As a fully-fledged carnivore myself I tend to have very low expectations for vegetarian dishes, preferring something with a bit of meat in it. However I can say with confidence that this dish was made so much more tasty by the absence of meat. The smokey flavour achieved in that risotto, combined with cheese and tomato is a vegetarians dream.
During desert we had a visit from the chef, checking to see how we had enjoyed the meal. He was polite and friendly, and I look forward to watching his career in food flourish, based on his apparent dedication to the art and handle on flavours.
Overall this experience has been my favourite during my two years with restaurant week. I would recommend Dash to anyone who asked and even to those who don't. Everyone really pulled out all the stops, from our waitress to the manager to the chef. Good wine and good food, Dash is a must visit!
The setting, the food , the service and presentation were all first class.
I literally can't fault a thing here
Amazing value for money, not only for the food but also the wine. I appreciate when restaurants don't put 100% Mark up on their wines.
Wonderful service, delicious food and everything was beautiful to look at.

My particular favourites were the mushroom starter and the tuna, delicate and bursting with flavour!
I love the decor too, modern and intimate, plus the sound of the piano in the background just added that extra touch of elegance
fantastic service, the decor is unbelievable (especially the art), and the food was SUPERB. Every course attention to detail, Taste combinations excellent. My only complaint is that the portions were way to big (the first time i have ever i have not been able to finish my courses). 9 courses of absolute heaven.
the best we have had in a very long time. well done!!!!
A hidden gem situated at the V & A in a quiet cul de sac. Warm welcome on arrival. Seated at an elegant cocktail bar for an aperitif all prepared with knowledge and dedication. Gorgeous. The menu provided a choice and 3 courses.

About Dash Restaurant & Bar
Dash Restaurant and Bar
While Dash caters to guests of the Queen Victoria Hotel, it is also a stand-alone restaurant and bar that encourages patrons from near and far to enjoy its delectable cuisine. The bar is the perfect after-work drinks venue, with an extensive selection of single-malt whiskies and wines. The gleaming mirror ceilings and double-sided fireplace enhance the prevailing sense of wonder, together with the panoramic view in front of you.
The menu at Dash is beautifully curated by the newly appointed Head Chef, Ashraf Arendse. The inspiration behind his new menu was the use of simple ingredients paired with bold flavours, presented in a striking manner. This makes for an unmissable dining experience.
The interiors of Dash complement the sense of drama achieved with the contents of the uneven, oval-shaped plates. The artwork is supplied by the Everard Read Gallery across from the Portswood precinct and every few months it is replaced with new work by local artists. The parquet wooden flooring, black leather seats, quirky black Gregor Jenkin tables, and other-worldly mirrored wall unite to create an intimate and provocative space. We believe that going out to dine should be a formal occasion and have a theatrical element to it. Between the aesthetically pleasing dishes and the dramatic interiors of Dash, this principle is expertly executed.
