If you have the opportunity to eat there, take two dishes. mussels and the waygu beef steack tartare. Fromage plate rather than a dessert.
Nice location on the Waterfront and in a certain way a piece of Europe in Africa. I ll come back.

A lovely place to sit and admire the view and receive excellent service. Our waiter Couzin, was fabulous, very helpful, kind and a perfect gentleman. The wine was delicious, especially the oak barrelled Sauvignon blanc. Then there is the food, looked great and tasted pretty good, BUT, shame everything was lukewarm and the mussels were a let down, they didn't taste freshly cooked, more recently cooked and freshly warmed up! Tuna was sublime though and the peppercorn sauce matched it perfectly, just give me hot mased potatoes next time please!!

Food to die for, fantastic service and a beautiful set-up and location. The food was hot and fresh and delicious and when we were unsure of something on the menu, it was explained and allowed to taste it. The staff are all friendly and hard working. There's a very interesting tradition with a shoe and beer...enquire within!

The first and only place to come to mind when wanting to try Dutch food and drink (amongst all the incredible seafood and more). Their bitterballen (a traditional Dutch food) were delicious as was all their other food (I opted for meze/tapas). They have a wide selection of food and drink, including a beer tasting board which was very informative. The views are stunning, the atmosphere friendly and the service is of the highest standard.

About Den Anker

Cuisine: Belgian

Our name is Belgian, our ambience international and our setting spectacular. You'll find us on the quayside of Cape Town's Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, where the Atlantic ocean meets the mother city.

Take an umbrella shaded table on our terrace, at the African Queen bar, or in our streamlined interior, where wall-to-wall windows make the most of the picture-postcard backdrop of Table Mountain.

Described by restaurant critics as 'one of the Waterfront's most popular pioneers' we're now celebrating our 21st anniversary. Enjoy the friendly ambience…our serving staff is attentive and smiling.

Menus revolve round fresh, seasonal dishes like just-caught crayfish or shrimps flown in from Europe. Specialities range from generous pots of mussels and frites to traditional South African fare; gourmet temptations from foie gras brûlée to velvet-smooth chocolate.

We import beers from small Belgian breweries to ensure a spread of different flavours and styles. six of these are served on tap: De Koninck, Vedett Extra White, LiefmansFruitesse, La Chouffe, Maredsous Blond and of course Anker beer, brewed exclusively for us in Lochristi to a personal recipe from Den Anker's Belgian founder, Denis Bouckaert.

For visitors wanting to try something local, tasty South African specialities change weekly. To avert a riot by regulars, best-sellers remain constant.
