What a lovely place. We were 6 ladies for lunch and the food was lovely. Sitting outside under the trees, even though it was a bit windy, was great. We all want to go back. Thanks La Vie en Rose.
Lovely setting with a nice friendly atmosphere from management and staff, complimented with delicious food. (the "toblerone" desert is yumm!)
Definitely would reccomend, as it makes for a lovely change from shopping centre settings.
On a warm summer evening, the outside setting of La Vie en Rose in Illovo, Johannesburg, is wonderful. The wind whispers through the canopy of leaves overhead and you can enjoy your meal in a truly relaxing setting. There is also plenty of secure parking.

The service is efficient without being overbearing or intrusive.
The food is good, not spectacular. The baked Camembert and glazed brioche starter was delicious. Our other starter was also Camembert driven and featured a brown mushroom. It was very tasty, though not quite as good as its cousin.
Mains featured fillet medallions in a pepper sauce on a bed of wilted greens and linguine. It was very good, though perhaps may have been better on polenta or sweet potato mash.
The other main was glazed chicken breast and vegetables in a balsamic reduction.
The desserts were a little disappointing. The home-made strawberry ice cream was generic, with gollops of artificial colouring and flavouring. The phyllo-wrapped deep fried Toblerone was insanely rich and would have been in better company at a County Fair than a higher end Johannesburg restaurant.
La Vie en Rose is not fine dining, but does offer very good fare (in very generous portions) at respectable prices.
