We had a lovely day out - we sat under a big tree with the pond right next to us.
The food was great, the environment was really peaceful and we just really had a good afternoon!
Things got off to a bit of a rocky start due to miscommunication but once we were finally seated we enjoyed a beautiful meal in truly peaceful country surroundings.
From the homemade bread to the soup duo (loved the sweet potato most) with a delicately flavoured oil dressing to a pork belly that was immaculately spiced.
Head chef Jean was attentive and accommodating. Highly recommended.
The outdoor section is absolutely gorgeous. The waiters were very attentive and friendly. The food was mind blowing! The cuisine was not to our normal taste but that's why we wanted to try it. It really was perfectly done and the layout of it was beautiful.
I like to be prepared.. I plan ahead and I tend to always want to tweet, instagram and facebook my foodie experiences.

As such I pre-contacted all the restaurants that I had booked for restaurant week to request a menu. Toadbury (Marietha Harber) is the only restaurant that did not respond so I arrived yesterday not knowing what I was getting for lunch and wasn't pleasantly suprised with the limited options.
Incredibly they only offered a choice of:
1 starter: Pea & Sweecorn Chowder that arrived cold
1 main: Roasted Pork Belly
I called our waiter, Manex to ask about the fact that there might be a Vegetarian, Muslim or Jewish person attending their restaurant week and could they not have just given one other option on the menu. He referred me to the manager Petros.
After further negotiations, Petros said I could either have chicken or trout instead and I had to then ask him if he could please just bring me a menu.
Anyway, in the meantime we decided to crack onto a bottle of Zonnebloem Chardonnay and just try to enjoy the beautiful gardens around us. Sadly, the bottle arrived on ice (without glasses) and after thirty minutes, when our starters were served cold, I had to flag someone down again to ask why they still hadn't brought the wine glasses so we could open the wine.
All in all - a great venue with a lot of potential.
Service - okay.
Cuisine - average.
Ambience - beautiful.
What an awesome place! The service was great, the food awesome and the setting is stunning! 10 out of 10!
