The staff was super helpful and went out of their way to make us comfortable to find the perfect spot. We settled for a table on the roof. The complimentary bruschetta& avocado and herb dip was delicious. This was followed by starters of deep fried prawns in a bed of salad greens with a chives and sour cream dip. My companion had deep fried mince/German dish.
The main dish was duck which was made to perfection -medium but tender with all the juices. This was served with a medley of vegetables. The meal was delicious and the ambience for a Saturday afternoon even better. The cherry on top was the DJ playing chill house music in preparation for an event later in the day.

This is truly impressive so see that they will not stop at anything to make their customers evening unforgettable. We were seating on the rooftop, which was stunning. For starters we had a very small portion of duck. Although it was truly amazing in taste, I just felt it a bit small for a portion as it was only a 3 course meal. The mains of Beef Wellington was the best Wellington I have ever eaten in my life. Really wow. The desert was caramelized pineapple with a small scoop of ice cream; Yet again, very good. The only negative was the I felt a bit hungry when I left. For sure a must go to venue. Just make sure you are not too hungry. A nice touch was the chef that visits the table to explain each meal. Well done guys.
We arrived at the venue and we escorted to our table. The venue has a restaurant, gallery, whisky and gin bars, so even though they are not well demarcated this wasn’t an issue.

The interior is modern and very European in feel. We were greeted by the barman/waiter and shown to our seats. The chef then came out and introduced himself and told us about the food. Everyone was very friendly without being intrusive, so we felt very welcome. The food’s presentation was great and the flavours were out of this world. We had quale eggs with scallops for starters and lamb lollypops for mains. Wonderful! We will definitely be trying this place again and spending much longer enjoying all they have to offer.
I must commend the owner that has invested a huge amount of money into this part of the Johannesburg CBD to revitalize the inner city. At no time did we feel insecure or threatened in any way, but when driving to and from the venue keep valuables out of sight.
The scallops and the lamb were really tasty. And a nice touch on the gratis ice cream and strawberries!!! The best selection of wine by the glass I have seen at any restaurant in SA so far. Good service and really friendly management.
What amazing hospitality. The vibe was great, chilled Sunday afternoon with cool music, very relaxed. Sat on the rooftop. The food was very good and the hospitality was out of this world. Great staff and owner at The Nine Barrels, will definitely be going back.
