We were absolutely delighted by the venue. It was an oasis of sophistication and a celebration of contrasts where beauty and grit meet in Jozi, our dirty mining town. The chef put out perfectly, crispy- skinned, pink duck breasts for entree and a Wellington for mains which was cooked to perfection. These were well executed classics. Unfortunately the dessert was a bit pedestrian and unmemorable. The wine selection was great but over priced. The service was super friendly but not sufficiently coordinated with the kitchen, serving our wine five minutes after the first course had been presented. All in, it was an experience worth sharing and I'd go back again (soon)! Solid 7/10

The Nine Barrels will serve wines by the glass and its intention is to have the biggest choice of wines by the glass, currently there are only a few places with a limited selection. South Africa has an amazing wine culture and worldwide the wines from the Western Cape are very much appreciated. Recent numbers are showing that the consumption of wine is growing rapidly and more and more people are appreciating a glass of wine. Especially in Johannesburg the consumption of wine is growing exponentially.
