We booked for a sunday lunch at Glenda's and find the ambience very cozy and nice. The cocktails are not memorable but the food was nice. Most importantly since they ran out of the liquorice ice cream which we pre-ordered at the start of the lunch, they spoiled us with other dessert which was a nice touch. We will definitely come back again!
It was our first visit to Glenda's and we were very impressed with the cheerful restaurant decor and good service.
Great food, all 10 of us really enjoyed both courses on the Restaurant week menu, not a single negative comment from anyone.
Glenda's never fails to deliver. Some of the best food in Johannesburg by far. We are always surprised and delighted when we go there; never disappointed.
With so many mediocre restaurants in the city, this one stands head and shoulders above the others.

The food was divine - everybody thoroughly enjoyed the 3 course lunch! Glenda came to the table after lunch to greet everybody and find out if they enjoyed their meal which was a nice touch.

Such a pretty restaurant, lovely waiter and well presented, tasty food however there were a couple of things that we felt should have been better. Firstly the restaurant is very cramped. There are just too many tables. Secondly, the product is not consistent. The fillet steaks were tiny except for 1 of the 5 ordered, one person received a large portion of chips, while the others did not, there were bones in one of the fish cakes, the caramel cake had a lovely meringue topping but when served the meringue topping was not there. Finally, one guest ordered meringues for dessert because she was told it was served with strawberries and cream but it came with apple. She had specifically ordered because of the strawberries.

About Glenda's
About Glenda’s Restaurant
Glenda’s focus is on seasonal flavours with a constantly changing menu. We have planted a nursery in our courtyard where herbs and salad leaves are plucked for the dishes.
We cater for all occasions, serving breakfast, brunch, lunch & dinner. Think deviled eggs, artichoke gratin or duck and waffle served with a sprinkling of edible flowers. A marbled bar is open for after-work drinks. Don’t forget to try the Pink Tiki or Clockwork Orange or relax in the Choux Choux lounge with a glass of Champagne or Prosecco.
‘Dotty Choux’ is our takeaway patisserie counter that specialises in choux pastries of colours and flavours. Our sensational cakes can be made to order. Try the salted caramel popcorn cake – it is to die for! Glenda’s brings sophistication and elegance to this sunny spot nestled in Hyde Square, Johannesburg. We hope to create a haven where people can savour every freshly made meal and leave feeling like they have to come back again and soon.
About Glenda Lederle
After creating and nurturing the beloved Patisserie in Johannesburg’s Illovo for 10 years, Glenda Lederle sold in 2002 and moved to start up the infinitely popular, Katerina’s restaurant at Kurland Estate outside of Plettenberg Bay.
It was at the Patisserie that Glenda became renowned for her beautifully presented pastries and cakes however not many people know that in 2013 & 2014, Glenda decided to travel the world. She trained in some of Europe & America’s top kitchens from ‘The Red Rooster’ in New York City, to the acclaimed ‘Petersham Nursery’ & world famous ‘River Café’ in London to Four Seasons Michelin starred restaurant in Berlin.
Having returned home in May 2015 to seek out a new spot for her restaurant, Glenda bided her time until the right location presented itself. Glenda’s in Hyde Square is now open for breakfast, lunch, tea, after work drinks and dinner. There is also a ‘choux choux’ lounge for quaffing champagne and ‘Dotty Choux’ the takeaway patisserie counter specialising in Choux Pastry.
