Compared to other restaurants where I only payed R250 for the 3 course dinner (and the dishes we 10 x better than Carbon) I was shocked that Carbon Bistro was one of the restaurants charging R300. The food was not good. Starter was average. For mains my friend asked the waiter whether the calamari was tubes or squid heads as she despises the heads. The waiter said it was the tubes. Her dish came out and it was heads. I sent my steak back twice, I asked for medium rare. It came blue. Sent it back and it came back untested the second time with my vegetables swimming in the blood. You had to choose between rice, chips or vegetables for the mains. Seems like no thought was put into the menu at all. Dessert was average.
On the contrary the gin cocktails were fantastic.
Generally we had a really lovely evening. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly.
The starters were lovely and beautifully presented.
The Calamari main course was rather dry and over cooked. . .too much batter.
The Rib eye was a bit on the chewy side, but very tasty.
The Argentinian style Rump with Chimichurri was excellent.
Desserts were fabulous.

We ordered cocktails with a three course dinner and coffee afterwards, and not once did the next course come out too soon, nor did we ever wonder how far our next order were - their timing was impeccable. The host was friendly and well-informed, upon request he was able to give us a bit of background information about the dishes we ordered. The plating and presentation of each dish is absolutely beautiful. Great place for anything from a couple's dinner to a cocktail evening or dinner party for a larger group. Would definitely recommend, can't wait to visit again.
