Absolutely lovely . Can’t wait to go back
We went for Sunday lunch and had a really great experience. We sat outside on the deck at the rivers edge. Live music on a sax made for a lovely relaxing ambience. Our food was excellent, I had the fillet steak which was melt in your mouth and my hubby had the fish which was delicious. Will definately be back soon. Lovely venue for family outing.
The setting of this hidden gem was very pleasant right along the Hennops River and the food was well-prepared and of a good quality. The only drawback could be that it is quite a drive to get there and that the normal prices on the menu are on the high side, e.g. over R100 for calamari starter that basically had 10 pieces. Otherwise great find.

The waiter soon change the music into a much more relaxing and warming beat. We decided to stick around and ordered our starters. My wife had the grilled calamari in sambal dressing (absolutely superb) and I had the gorgonzola gnocchi (smoothest, richest gnocchi I have ever had!) which we accompanied with our ‘go to’ chardonnay by Thierry and Guy (Fat Bastard). For main course I had the Fillet (honestly the most buttery fillet I have had the luck to experience. Well done chef!) and my wife went with the tilapia with hummus mash, which was succulent and tasteful.
Ending with dessert, I went for the caramelised prunes and chocolate mousse and my wife had her favourite, creme bruleé. Unfortunately, the cream used in my mousse was sour and the prunes weren’t caramelised in the least. My wife was also disappointed with the consistency of the creme bruleé.
Disregarding our mishap with course number 3, we still had a great time and the starters and mains made up for that.
Our waiter was amazing and really professional. I can’t compliment the level of service enough!
Food was very delicious, but nothing fancy.
Service was on the poor side, as the waiter was a trainee without proper supervision.

About Al Fiume
Cuisine: Mediterranean, Italian
Al Fiume - Italian for 'at the river' - has all the ingredients for a great restaurant: a beautiful setting on a shady wooden deck on the banks of the Hennops River and a restaurateur with a passion for food, as well as the experience to ensure outstanding levels of service. Al Fiume serves food that lives up to our definition of quality: the season's best, cooked with skill and passion and presented with a minimum of fuss.
The cellar at Al Fiume is stocked with a diverse choice of Italian and South African wines. The selection includes everyday drinking wines and wines for special occasions; wines from some of South Africa's best-known estates and unusual wines from smaller estates.
Al Fiume is a restaurant for all seasons: long, lazy summer days on the wooden deck; bright spring days when the first signs of green are starting to appear on the trees overhanging the river; bracing winter days when you might want to work off your meal with a brisk walk over the bridge and cozy autumn days when you can sit snugly in the restaurant and watch the falling leaves floating down the river.
