When I established that this was not the ( discounted)Cape Town Restuarant Week menu, attitudes changed ( as did menu! ) we were not offered the wine list, in fact had to request such , 4x , and it took 3 waitrons 30 minutes before we were able to look at the wine list. As polite and capable as all the waitrons were, so our table had least preference service was ignored. Our food: the presentation alround was super. The food for this special menu-LESS than mediocre!
My starter: Lemongrass & coriander fish cake with crispy Asian veggies and aioli - no flavours of lemongrass, nor coriander! Aioli was almost unnoticeable. My main: Beef sirloin (ordered rare) with a strange accompaniment of Vetkoek...steak was medium-rare instead, was tender, but not juicy, the Vetkoek was not a yeast dough, but rather a sweet scone dough( baking powder cake dough), too over cooked deep fried (inedible) , accompanied by 1 sliced mini carrot, and what appeared to be cold sweet butternut mousse? and hard baby beetroot. All very disappointing! Left my veggies , etc, left last bit of overdone steak too. My dessert: a Fudge panna cotta: delicious, although certainly not a panna cotta in any sense of the Italian meaning! Thoughts? Our table felt decidedly as 'the poor relations' - Restaurant Week menu and quality of food and flavours highly disappointing - especially as I have been a guest at The Conservatory on multiple occasions. Our bill, with wine and coffees came to R435:00 per head x 4
Question: WHY would they participate in Cape Town Restuarant Week, if this is the attitude and sub-quality of menu/food/cooking, which (besides the presentation and ambience) was NOT representative of the fine dining and standards of their restuarant. We had a pleasant evening amongst ourselves, but certainly were all four guests disappointed.
Excellent service, superb food overall great experience
Delicious delicious delicious food in a magical woodland setting. Good service from the friendly members of staff. A memorable experience
Great venue, beautiful location and amazingly good food!! Outstanding, professional and friendly service
A nice evening out. The service was attentive and kind. Food was just above average.
We had a nice fishcake and reasonable pulled pork roti for entrée and a very generous but under-seasoned yellowtail for main. My friend said her gnocchi main was good.

Desert was a very thick and over-set panna cotta (tasted fine though) and something else. Can't remember... which basically sums up the evening. It was nice, but immemorable. A lovely setting though. Worth a try
