As my husband and I had never been to the Cellars-Hohenort before, we kindly had a waiter from The Conservatory guide us all the way from our car to our table. Could we really ask for anything better? Then our meals arrived. Their cuisine was absolutely divine and we enjoyed the carpaccio starter with vinaigrette tomatoes the most. It was refreshingly different and yum! We will definitely be back! Thank you to Restaurant Week for opening our horizons to a variety of restaurants that we may not have visited on our own accord.

Sadly everyone arrived within a few minutes of the rest, the place was full, with 3 large noisy tables. As such more than a few of the 2 to 4 tables had delayed starts, wine late on arrival and we had to remind them for our desert as the large tables, who we the last to arrive, had caught up with us. So I would suggest better supervision required. The ambiance, because of the full restaurant was compromised, as the noise level was very high. So we enjoyed the meal the 4 of us, will return as we do, as we are local, but the service and ambiance needs some attention

Service was average to poor - we had to pour our own wine, and they forgot about taking our order for desert and when we enquired about which desert we wanted the first response was that they only had one desert left. I said this was not acceptable and that they only offered two to choose from, and that we hadn't even been asked which desert to have, until we mentioned this.
It just seemed that they put us in a corner, because we were part of the Restaurant Week patrons, and at times were forgotten.
I expected more from a 5 star establishment, and have had a much better experience from Katherina's or Chefs Warehouse @ Beau Constantia

We shared each option so we could enjoy everything on offer. First up was a delicious variety of breads and grissini's. Our least favourite course (although still excellent) was the gazpacho. This was served with scrumptious goats cheese parcels. Could have eaten a whole bowl of those as a starter. Second starter was beef carpaccio - probably the tastiest we have ever had. For mains we had grilled line fish and gelatinous pork belly. Being big fans of pork crackling, we were slightly disappointed that none was to be seen on the plate... until we tucked into the superbly delicious pork belly. Truly spectacular and a definite highlight of the meal.
Desserts were a pineapple panacotta and a white chocolate mousse in phyllo pastry. Both were exquisitely plated and not overly sweet. Very more'ish. The servings throughout the meal were perfectly generous. We felt that the wine list (although offering a great selection from some of our favourite wine regions) was overpriced. The service was excellent although we did ocassionally top up our own wine and water. This didn't bother us as we had a truly memorable experience.

Once again our experience was not good. The restaurant had 4 large groups of diners. The tables of 2 and 4 were situated so close to these tables that the noise level was most unpleasant. So much for an elegant dining experience!!! It would have been so much better if the independent diners had been seated in another area, of which there are a couple of options in that particular restaurant.
Now to the FOOD. This was mediocre to say the least. There was a choice of 2 in each of the 3 course dinner at a cost of around R400 p.p. which was too expensive for the quality of the cuisine. The saving grace was the dessert. Considering Cellars Conservatory restaurant have put themselves forward to participate in the restaurant week I would have thought they would have made more of an effort.
Lastly to add insult to injury one of our group had an upset stomach after leaving! This is the second time that we have had cause to complain about the food at Cellars. Given that there are so many excellent restaurants in the Constantia, they have not done themselves any favors.
