The food was all delicious and well executed, with sauces that made each dish - bitter horseradish balanced with beetroot under the fish cake and a devine sauce with the perfectly cooked calamari. The desserts were sickly sweet and even the tart berry coulis couldnt save the trough of brulee.

Read full reviewWe returned to Pigalle for Restaurant week, and must complement them for the fantastic service. We used to frequent Pigalle often when they served sushi. Last night the food was quite good, but I think overpriced. The starter - a fish croquette was not great and just a mouthful. Two of us had calamari which was tasty but a bit chewy. My husband had the Portuguese steak which he said was very nice but a bit small. Desserts were adequate. However the 3 course meal plus 1 bottle of wine, a sparkling water and an Appeltiser together with tip of 10% cost us R1 050-00 which I think is excessive for what we had!
The linefish croquette amuse bouche was quite dry and needed more of the beetroot/horseradish that was on the base of the spoon. I had the calamari for mains which was delicious, however the green beans on the side needed to be cooked much more as they were a little too crunchy and "green", but that maybe a persona...

I had the calamari for mains which was delicious, however the green beans on the side needed to be cooked much more as they were a little too crunchy and "green", but that maybe a personal preference. My husband had the portuguese steak which he enjoyed and the steak was served medium as requested. My creme brulee for dessert was perfect. But my husband did not enjoy his malva puudding as the vanilla ice cream on the side had a "grainy" texture which happens to ice cream when it is old. Overall good, but not great compared to Pigalle's food that we have enjoyed on other occasions.
Fabulous food with attend full service at all times. The only thing was our table was behind a door so it was very hard for our food to served. Also room was quite stuffy as we seated in previously smoking section.
The food menu was nothing spectacular as you would expect from a restaurant of this status. The Chef cooked the food brilliantly but it was what I could get at any place. We expected the restaurant to show off more than it did.
