After making the lunch booking, I received an email from the team asking if we would like to sit outside- weather permitting- which i obviously agreed to knowing the deck and view.
The day we went for lunch however was not outdoor weather, and our table was not changed to an inside table- which i assumed would be done as we had reserved a table- whilst we sat on the deck in the wind, trying to stay warm, it looked like the other guests were enjoying the warth and ambiance of the indoor fire.
Nevertheless, the service was good, although we did feel somewhat neglected sitting in the corner in the cold.
The amuse bouche was a lentil and smoked salmon stack. Pleasant but not something i would order.
For starters we had fried baby squid, Moroccan aubergine, harissa,
cumin mayonnaise, grapefruit and the country terrine, fig chutney, black mission figs, pork crackling, black pepper vinaigrette. i paired the terrine with the
recommended Glen Carlou Unwooded Chardonnay.
The squid was absolutely delicious and i think the terrine would have gone down better on a warmer day.
Mains were: the lamb neck, mint sauce, peas, yoghurt, heirloom carrots,
thyme polenta fries together with the recommended Gravel Quarry Cabernet Sauvignon. The lamb was delicious and melted in your mouth- a stunning dish.
pork and pear, pork belly, pickled pear, cider and pear sauce,
sautéed baby spinach, pear puree, crackling also with the
recommended Glen Carlou Pinot Noir. The flavours were perfect and not an overpowering pork taste.
Neither of us opted for desert and ended the meal with 2 coffees.
all in all a great lunch which would have been made perfect if we could have had a table inside.

The food was of a very high quality and the service staff were well trained, informed and very helpful. The restaurant has an excellent outlook of the Paarl Valley.
Everything was perfect - the atmosphere, venue, service, wine & the food was excellent! We will definitely visit Glen Carlou again!

We were given some bread on arrival with 3 assorted butters and a complimentary Amuse Bouch of bacon and potato soup which was a nice surprise. The starter was very nice , country terrine with spiced plums, but not sure if the pork crackling went with the dish? Mains was pork belly, small portion but enough, no veg or starch on the plate and my wife had the lamb noisettes, also small but tasty. The cheeseboard was delicious with a great noble late harvest. The highlight was the complimentary wine tasting with fantastic wines, I had no idea the wines were that good! Will go back.
