What an amazing evening. We were made to feel special from the time we arrived to the time we left. The service was top class all the way. The food was absolutely amazing, WOW, and the dessert was the awesome - loved the dry ice effect with the presentation. The head chef made an effort to come out to see us, as I work for SACA and I am responsible for the World Chefs Tour Against Hunger (WCTAH).
It was also my boyfriends birthday on Friday, and the restaurant went the extra mile to give my boyfriend Craig a small cake beautifully presented, with the smoking dry ice effect...magnificent.
Now this is more like a fine dining experience I was after ! Special mention of our waiter Norman who was just brilliant !
Perhaps the only disappointment was the starter which obviously was not made fresh and left to sit in the fridge - you cannot prepare beetroot several hours beforehand and expect it not to "wi...

The main - chicken dish was lovely and the naartjie malva dessert really fresh on the palate .
All in all very satisfying
Service very good, had a very good experience

The menu selection was very limited (chicken or vegetarian pasta only for mains), the food was average at best, I definitely expected more and lacked real taste. The restaurant was quite empty as well, and I guess if you consider all the other fabulous options in the square it's no surprise that they don't get much attention, when the experience is not that great. I wouldn't rush back.
We regret to report that we were not flabbergasted, on the contrary. It was not exquisite - not up to the standards one expects from a hotel like of your category. I took my phone with reservation code QH68X2 but we were not in the system. I had received a confirmation and kindly reminders in name of Maya Oosterhoff...
Read full reviewWe regret to report that we were not flabbergasted, on the contrary. It was not exquisite - not up to the standards one expects from a hotel like of your category. I took my phone with reservation code QH68X2 but we were not in the system. I had received a confirmation and kindly reminders in name of Maya Oosterhoff but we seemed to have been mixed up with Jansen van Vuuren or something. So we did not get a table at the window because had no reservation, but we insisted and finally got our window table. The food could have been from any ordinary restaurant and the wines on the list double or even more the price of all your neighbouring restaurants because we know them all in the meantime. Really no value for money at all. And no eyes for an empty glass. Fortunately the bottle was just behind our back so we poured ourself...

About Piccolo Mondo
Cuisine: Fine Dining, Italian
Flair, adventure and culinary delight are at the heart of the menu at the Piccolo Mondo Restaurant. Designed not to just feed the appetite and appease the taste buds, several of the dishes bring with them a visual signature never seen before.
“The clientele of the Piccolo Mondo, and in fact the Michelangelo hotel in general, is so diverse that we have to create a very delicate balance between food that is fashionable, contemporary yet modern, food that has a wow factor, must be mainly food that is tasty and appeases all our clienteles’ discerning palates,” says, executive chef Trevor Boyd at the Michelangelo Hotel.
The menu captures nuances of all the components a menu needs to set us apart from other restaurants out there. “We believe that our new menu will cater for not only the business weary traveller and the erstwhile tourist, but also the many visitors we see popping in for a meal on their visit to the Nelson Mandela Square.”
