Our dinner experience at this beautiful hotel was lovely. The food was expectional and very tasty. The ostrich was prepared to perfection. The service was a bit slow. The view over the square from our table was romantic. It was a pity that there were only 8 tables booked as this did effect the ambiance.
Dinner was lovely, really interesting combinations. The melon sorbet was a nice touch as well as the pre-starter! The only complaint I have is hat the still water cost R60.00 (for 750ml) as we were not given the option of any local brands...
There was also another function in the ballroom with very noisy guests!

Read full reviewI've been to the Piccolo Mondo before for restaurant week and we were always going to go back on the next round. The food and ambiance didn't disappoint, with only the service being slightly below their usual standards (new inexperienced waiter?). I thoroughly enjoyed my choices for all three courses. I was a bit apprehensive regarding my vanilla and corn espuma for a starter, but the chef nailed the taste combination. Impressive given that I'm not normally a big fan of fusion cooking.
Amazing experience! The staff and chef were extremely professional and made every attempt to ensure that our dietary needs were met. I'm gluten intolerant and once I explained this to our waiter Thabang, we was efficient to provide me with gluten free alternatives which were decadent!
Very dissapointing for fine dining. No proper supervision so a dirty tissue lying on the floor and not picked up as well as dirty cutlery on the table. Main course very bland and starter seemed to have been in the fridge for a long time as very cold

About Piccolo Mondo
Cuisine: Fine Dining, Italian
Flair, adventure and culinary delight are at the heart of the menu at the Piccolo Mondo Restaurant. Designed not to just feed the appetite and appease the taste buds, several of the dishes bring with them a visual signature never seen before.
“The clientele of the Piccolo Mondo, and in fact the Michelangelo hotel in general, is so diverse that we have to create a very delicate balance between food that is fashionable, contemporary yet modern, food that has a wow factor, must be mainly food that is tasty and appeases all our clienteles’ discerning palates,” says, executive chef Trevor Boyd at the Michelangelo Hotel.
The menu captures nuances of all the components a menu needs to set us apart from other restaurants out there. “We believe that our new menu will cater for not only the business weary traveller and the erstwhile tourist, but also the many visitors we see popping in for a meal on their visit to the Nelson Mandela Square.”
