My husband and I booked a romantic evening at this restaurant as part of Restaurant Week. The setting is perfect - beautiful gardens and an extremely elegantly decorated dining room and bar. You just feel relaxed sitting on their patio and soaking up the scenery.
Upon arrival we were shown to the bar as we were a bit early. The barman, as with all the other waiters and staff, were extremely friendly and attentive. We were offered drinks and snacks - which consisted of biltong and spiced nuts.
The service during dinner was excellent - the waiters never overbearing and someone always available to fill up the water or wine glasses. The food was out of this world - everything was plated perfectly and the flavours complimented each other. We started off with a cauliflower soup, then a springbok carpaccio, a pork belly for my husband and a salmon for myself as mains. The dessert was a deconstructed milk tart which was excellent!! Even the cappuccino served after dinner was perfect.
I cannot wait to share this special place with all my foodie friends - it is genuinely a gem hidden in the city.
Having just returned from Paris and dining at some world class restaurants it was tough to believe that Athol Place would crack our top 3 - it surpassed our expectations! Each of the four courses we enjoyed got more delicious with each bite, the ambiance was fresh and sophisticated while every staff members was attentive. A most memorable experiences.
