Thank goodness we came with restaurant week and didn't needlessly spend more money than its worth.

The ambience was terrible - here you have a beautiful restaurant closely placed to a bar / lounge where hooligans hang out. That completely ruined my evening and the manager could not deal with it...
Thank you but I definitely won't be recommending to anyone nor will I be back...
There is no supervision for a fine dining institution. A dirty tissue lay on the floor throughout our meal which waiter stood on and supervisor walked past. Also dirty cutlery. Main course very bland and starter of Carpaccio tasted like it had just come out of fridge. Would definitely not go back in a rush

Read full reviewWe arrived for our reservation and were greeted and seated, the first 5 minutes of service was exceptional. Unfortunately after that things slowed down and to be honest, never saw our waiter again. Somewhen else brought our starters and cleared our table. We waited for our pallet cleanser of sorbet and nothing arrived, 50 minutes after our table was cleared from starters I got annoyed and went to the front. I was told that there is a function next door that's why the service is slow and was offered a glass of juice on the house for the delay. Shortly after that our mains arrived, an average meal two pieces of chicken, one very salty and the other was average in taste. The sea bass was good, nothing to write home about. Dessert came shortly after, the berry tart was good, the chocolate pistachio dessert was disappointing, not for the chocolate lover as it tasted artificial with a pistachio cream in the centre. Got the bill and left. Got the one apology and offer of juice which I declined as I came for the exceptional service and attention to detail and tasty food which was unfortunately not the case. I've been here before and I know their standards are a lot higher, expected the same the second time around.
Piccolo Mondo came highly recommended from family and friends and they did not disappoint. The food was beautiful and delicious. Thank you Aubrey for your excellent service. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

About Piccolo Mondo
Cuisine: Fine Dining, Italian
Flair, adventure and culinary delight are at the heart of the menu at the Piccolo Mondo Restaurant. Designed not to just feed the appetite and appease the taste buds, several of the dishes bring with them a visual signature never seen before.
“The clientele of the Piccolo Mondo, and in fact the Michelangelo hotel in general, is so diverse that we have to create a very delicate balance between food that is fashionable, contemporary yet modern, food that has a wow factor, must be mainly food that is tasty and appeases all our clienteles’ discerning palates,” says, executive chef Trevor Boyd at the Michelangelo Hotel.
The menu captures nuances of all the components a menu needs to set us apart from other restaurants out there. “We believe that our new menu will cater for not only the business weary traveller and the erstwhile tourist, but also the many visitors we see popping in for a meal on their visit to the Nelson Mandela Square.”
