We visited De Kloof restaurant as they participated in the 2017 Autumn Restaurant week. The restaurant is situated in the Waterkloof golf estate near Ford Klapperkop. I gave the restaurant a great rating as:
- they were able to confirm the booking without any hassles (even called back after they missed my call and I did not leave a message). Explained the way forward well and indicate to me that we need to use the centralised booking system;
- they explained the concept and menu well to us;
- the winelist included lovely wines at reasonable prices;
- the food was absolutely stunning ... my husband and I ordered different meals so that we have exposure to a bigger variety of their options and I thought we both made great choices ... fit for our palate and diverse preferences. Think I had the best choices though ... the Persian chicken was exciting flavours that by far exceeded the (expected great) beef fillet. I can undoubtedly also mention the chocolate fondant that in my humble opinion rate amongst the best I had in quite some time!! Despite the 'fine dining' concept (beautifully plated and all) its needs mentioning that the portions are really NOT stingy ... the three courses leaves you almost uncomfortable but absolutely satisfied;
- the staff were very attentive and friendly from the moment we arrived till we left.
I will gladly recommend them for anyone that loves good food, plated and served to perfection! This was an evening well spent!

I regret to inform you that our dining experience at De Kloof Restaurant was a total let down.
We have experienced a lot of fine dining restaurants across the country with the likes of DW11 on 13, Marble, 54 on Bath, Mosaic at the Orient, Bable, Tokara, La Colombe, Oep ve Koep to name a few and was so looking forward to the same experience at your restaurant.
Firstly I must say I felt that because we were doing the "Restaurant Week Menu" we did not get the same quality, I can be wrong but I feel Restaurant Week is about show casing your restaurant, food and dining experience and I just felt that we were not treated that way even though we were paying R300 per head which in my opinion is almost equivalent to what you would have paid for a three course meal at your restaurant.
Two of us had the Harissa Monk Fish, which was nice and actually had flavours that really complimented each other. The third starter was the Cauliflower Chevin with Goats cheese crumble - which was very bland, you could not even taste goats cheese, which I was looking forward to.
For the mains, two of us had the Pork Belly and the other the Fillet. Firstly the portion sizes were totally off, if you compared the Pork Belly to the Fillet dish the ratios were not the same, the person getting the Fillet could actually enjoy some meat. The Pork Belly was mostly fat, to such an extent that one of the guests had to send his back because it was ONLY fat.
The desserts was also a miss. When the desserts came out only two out of the three guests received their dessert because "it did not pull through to the kitchen" we were told, which is strange as we had to place our order for all three courses at the same time. One guest had the cheesecake, which lacked that lemony taste and the gel on top was just too over powering. After 20 minutes (because I takes time to make) the third guest received their dessert which was the fondant which was the best thing that whole evening (and worth the wait), it was perfectly done and the ice cream was so smooth and tasty.
I spoke to the manager about our experience and it honestly did not feel like this really concerned him.
I must mention that you have a very good wine list, some different wines that was nice to experience.
We are foodies and are constantly looking for new and exciting flavours and will pay for such an experience, but honestly I was so disappointed in this experience especially because we left there not feeling satisfied at all.
Maybe we caught you on a bad night, we also know restaurants have that but it was so unfortunate that it had to have happened on the evening we came to your restaurant because we will not be coming back and it is sorry to say but will not recommend your restaurant to our friends.
I hope that you do take this to heart as I think you have a great concept, nice vibe, the food just did not seal the deal for us!

We had the three course Restaurant Week menu together with the suggested wine pairing. For our starter course our drink pairing only arrived after we completed the course. The food was of a good quality and tasty. The Chocolate Fondant was exceptionally good. We will return to De Kloof Restaurant.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Restaurant Week lunch; the chocolate fondant is something to really write home about. However, we feel the following can be improved on; the kitchen seems to be very slow as we waited at least 30-40 min between each dish. The plates used were not cleaned properly and the cutlery looked worn, which is a pity because it took away from the presentation of the food.
Great Night
